Vegas Hotels

If you wanted cheap. You would have been much better going with the sahara or even better imperial palace.

Circus circus has far too many loud kids, and needs a refurbishment.

I did not want cheap :) some of the others did though.

The main reason was the guy booking it saw it in a movie and wanted to go ever since. I told him we can pop in but think he thought hotels were off limits to non guests :)

Oh well its somewhere new to sleep I suppose...

Anyone actually stayed at Circus Circus? It looked dated and over run with kids when I last went.

A mate has booked a trip to Vegas in Nov and he chose that hotel, we let him do the booking by himself, which I may regret...

It's crap, dirty, a dump, full of freaks and kids, oh and poorly located

apart from that it's fine :D

is possible get the hotel changed this is not somewhere you want to stay

and of you absolutley must stay there whatever you do make sure you are not in the Manor Rooms

Good job he didn't watch The Hangover, you'd all be going bankrupt getting that room. ;)

Its not a dump by UK standards, its more than acceptable, its just absolute turd compared to the rest of the strip. I spent 2 nights there after spending 3 nights in the MGM. Its allright, just a bit out of the way, and yeh its absolutely chocker with kids and such like.

did you stay in the manor rooms ?

and I would say it was a dump even by UK standards

I believe the West Tower rooms aren't too bad

Ooh only realised today that there's a hockey game on whilst we're there, and on the dya of my wife's 30th :)

That'll be a nice pressie for her :p

The only downside to that itinery is that the intrenal flights are long, US internal planes are rubbish comapared to the transatlantic ones but other than that it all looks OK

Ok, child care is sorted (my parents!) and I now just have to book it including some shows the wife wants to see, I also want to do the Grand Canyon tour so looking into the one Rotty posted and if I book in the next 2 days its $259.99 per person so would save $100 on that.

Have tried to convince her to see a Cirque show out there but shes not having it, she does want to see Penn & Teller however so I am now trying to sort things out before the weekend to get everything booked and confirmed as we are then away for a week with the girls.

Cool, Is there anything else worth looking at if price is not a huge issue, it cant be a rip off but as long as you get what you are paying for its fine.

Plazzo, venetian, encore, A R I A???????
They are all fine, add Bellagio, Wynn and Vdara to the list too
I might be going again next year and am considering where to stay - went for first time this year and stayed at Encore andd had pretty much my best holiday ever, which I doubt Ill top - worried next time wont be as good for some reason though :p

Will look into those though - ta :)

ps3ud0

Booked and paid for :)

There was a slight change to the flights and the price went down a little bit.

Treasure Island (18th - 22nd Oct) - £616.60 per person.

18th Oct
LHR 08:40 - 16:04 LAS (via Houston) with Continental

22nd Oct
LAS 23:18 - 21:55 (via Washington) LHR (+1 day) with United

Rotty, do the hotels offer the normal baggage holding service after you checkout as we won't be leaving for the airport until the Friday evening and won't want to deal with luggage?

Thanks for all your help so far :)

We saw Penn and Teller last time we went, I enjoyed it :)

I am being pressured into MGM Grand because of the amazing swimming pools

Is it that bad in a Tower Room? I mean put it this way I stayed in a Premier Inn the other week and thought it was nice :p

The tower rooms are ok. I stayed there for 8 nights last year and it was fine (not amazing). The MGM pools are great though :)

There is a fish for a duck game at Circus Circus in the dome at the back, its very easy to cheat and win the stuffed toy.

If you don't get what you like shake the stick and the magnet is not that strong so you can keep trying.

This is my only tip on how to cheat at Vegas casinos.;)

yes they all do though they will expect a tip when you collect it

re the tipping culture as this causes a lot of confusion I thought I would give guidelines, this may differ from a few websites as a lot of those are written by folks receiveing tips and as such are the higher end, what I put here is fine

15-18% for decent to good service, for very bad service do not leave nothing as they will just think you are tight, you leave 1c to prove a point

Taxis and limos 20% , sod all if a taxi takes you through the tunnel from the airport ( limos are fixed price so it doesn't matter )

Drinks with table service 15%

Drinks from bar $1 per 2 drinks is fine maybe a little more if loads of cocktails etc

Comped drinks at tables/machines $1 per drink

Drinks with waitress service 15%

Bell boys taking bags to troom or back, $1 per bag prob min $3 ( don't fall for the one bloke collecting and another delivering scam )

Valet parking $2-5 on collecting car

Maid $2-3 per day, leave on pillow

4 1/2 days almost :)

I have been to LA/Hollywood/Grand Canyon/Palm Springs/Vegas (briefly when younger) before and we just wanted a few days away somewhere where we don't have to drive and can enjoy ourselves, plus she has never been and wanted to go.

Since we are also leaving our children with their grandparents whilst we are away and want to be back to spend time with them the following week it seems ok to us, so why not? :)

Went LA and Vegas last September for 4 nights at each place and loved it.

Stayed at the Venetian, what a hotel! If your not staying there, at least check it out especially Venice replica on the first floor. I done the Grand Canyon tour with GrandAdventures - their sunset tour on the south rim, what a day. I must say I almost proposed to my girlfriend when the sun was setting lol, the place took my breath away! There were people on the tour group who went west rim as well and said it just didn't compare. So if you are going Grand Canyon, make it south rim.

September's nearly here and we are going to Vegas again! :) Will be going San Francisco first for 5 nights (flight wise doesn't make much of a difference at all). This will include a 2 day tour of Yosemite, staying at the Cedar lodge for the night - something I really wanted to do last year but budget wouldn't allow. Need to work out how to cover San Fran in 3 days though.

As for Vegas, Couldn't get the girlfriend to try another hotel...she really loved Venetian and wants to be there again so 5 nights again! :)

This time I'm looking at taking a day out and checking out Zion and Bryce Canyon. Anyone been?

When I was there I did get the feel that MGM was more of a happening place/younger crowds and the Venetian had bit more of a grown up feel to it.

You will love Yosemite. We only had a day there, was nowhere near enough.

San Fran can be done in three days. Get on one of those 'hop on hop off' bus tour things down at Fisherman's Wharf. Takes you to all the main sights and over the Bridge if you pick the right route :)

Just got back from our 7 nights in vegas. Took 1k in spending money and it was nowhere near enough.

So many shows to see, many of them $70 each. If you're taking your significant other thats £100 a night just in show tickets. When combined with eating at nice restaurants, gambling in the casions etc.. you can spend £300 a day here easily. And thats before you go shopping in hotels like caesars palace, the bellagio etc..

We stayed at the venetian, great hotel, room was amazing and very luxurious. Probably wouldnt stay there again as it didnt wow me as much as some of the other hotels (possibly due to it being a bit dated like rotty says), love being on the strip so would possibly try the bellagio next time.
