Vegas Hotels

Certainly the most to look at on the casino floor :)

**** is great, I was there in July, slipped the check in girl 20 bucks and got a great upgrade too

I like A ria but just couldn't cope with getting in and out of the place to the strip, one of the great design **** ups of all time :p

A few of us are looking at Circus Circus because it is cheap and themed. Anyone have any experience with this one?

Just to reaffirm everyone else, dont do it.

I stayed there in 2006 and it 'wasnt bad' as a hotel but location isnt good, stratosphere is even worse if that one is in your short list too.

I went back in 2009 and circus circus was like a ghost town, lots of shops there were empty, back in 2006 it was a very busy hotel but that has all changed.

I stayed at TI and it was a good location

£317 is not bad for 4 nights over a weekend, re $20 trick, rooms are much of a muchness tbh so there isn't much to gain other than a better view

Re $1/2 poker , it's everywhere, near you Flamingo and Ballys are soft games though Planet Hollywood prob softest

All tourneys below $100 are crapshoots, above that I would recommend the one at A ria and really recommend a trip to Binions on a Saturday/Sunday for the deepstack

The Gun Store on Tropicana is fine for your shooting needs, there are others but I have always gone to that one

3 Steakhouses for you to choose from IMO based on your budget, none are cheap and (prices are for starter, main, side and 2 or 3 beers or a shared bottle of wine, included tax and tip)

Circus Circus steakhouse (don't worry about where it is, its independently owned) would be around $80 per person

Del Frisco would run out at about $110 per person

and the best would probably be Prime but this will be around $130 per person

would recommend a trip to http://hotnjuicycrawfish.com/ for a cheap pig out, messy but great fun

Can give you other recomendations if you let me know sort of thing you are looking for

re "gentlemans establishments" Spearmint Rhino or Olympic Gardens, don't go in a taxi as the lub pays them around $50 for bringing you and you will then be charged admission, ring the club, they will send limo , tip driver $20 and you will get in for nothing, they are topless only

Nightclubs, XS/Tryst/Marquee/Chateau/Haze

Clubs are normally hard for blokes on own to get into but you should be ok in Ja, will be pricey though, $10 beers/ $15 spirits, if you want a table you will need bottle service $300+

Cheers mate, you're a star!

Lots of good info there. Re: Binions - Are you talking about the $100 2pm daily? Looking at their website, it looks decent: 15k stack, 30min lvls etc. Think we will probably play this for sure on Sat, maybe on Sun as well. What tourneys at the A RIA would you play? I will mainly be playing cash I think, but we are both very competative, so will likely play a couple if only for last longer side-bets!

Re: Steakhouse. Prime looks ridiculous, don't like the styling at all. But Del Frisco's looks quality, so we'll get that booked now. Will they pick us up, or do we have to schlep over there ourselves?

Will also get to that Crawfish place. Saw it on MvF, and remember you saying it was decent, so we'll no doubt head there at some point.

yes the $100 gets about 80 runners on days with the $5k guarantee and about 30 on other days, great drinks service too, its in old town and a taxi will run about $30 but you can get bus if you are prepared for a bit longer trip

If you want some challenging cash action try the $1/3 at venetian

at a ria I think its somewhere about 12-1pm and again at 7 ish , both are good

Del Friscos is walking distance from the Platinum, they prob could arrange a pick up as they have limos outside but these will be more than a taxi and as I say you can walk, the Platinum has a Cadillac Escalade which you can book if not busy, think its free, just tip the driver

Awesome, cheers. Will just walk to Del Frisco's then, and try and book out the Escalade for the 2pm @ Binions.

I'm not sure I'm after challenging cash, rather, easy pickings. I've been reading quite a lot about the Vegas low limit cash games, and it seems tight play is rewarded, so will have to shapen myself up a bit, but I do like to drink in tournaments as I find them boring until I'm deep, but by that stage I'm normally smashed.

I've been reading that Pai Gow poker is decent if just wanting free booze at the Casino's as it is often a push, and it takes an age to deal to all players etc.

I didn't really find it any different from the others, just cut out at the English pub and go through crystals

that's the way I go but find it a bind and the thought of my missus going through a high end shopping place about 4 times a day for a week scares me

Oh and it's not an English pub, it's a pub run by Todd English :p ;)

I went in 2009 and it was ok, a cheap hotel at one end of the strip. I thought it was a good location as you could walk down the strip and up the other side, seeing all you wanted to see in a day. On the other hand I thought LV was terrible, some of the "best" themed hotels were just laughable and so fake (Venetian, New York, New York etc.). I don't know what the Wynn would be like though, I'm guessing significantly better. By far the best part of Vegas is Stratosphere, it has three great rides at the top that you should go on! On the other hand I didn't manage to get to a shooting range which may have topped it.

Excellent thread - I've spent the past two days researching Las Vegas as a serious trip for March 2013 with three mates and the reviews and suggestions on here are very useful.

I've used LasVegas.com for a quick price check on hotels on the strip and the most expensive standard room (inc. taxes and fees) from the hotels mentioned in this thread is four nights at the 5* Wynn Las Vegas at £1,600 for the Tower Suite. That works out at £100 per person per night, which is about the standard rate for hotels around London. Am I missing something here or does that sound about right?

With regards to four men in a room - that doesn't bother us really, we don't intend to spend a lot of time in there anyway!

Where is best for shopping? My mate is after some electrical gear (new laptop etc) and I wouln't mind having a browse for clothes etc.

Also - how much should you generally tip waitresses for beers when playing poker etc?

Should I bother with a TR card, or are they not worth it?

I was in Vegas a couple weeks ago and I can't really remember seeing many electrical shops to be honest, only place I remember seeing was the Apple shop in Caesars Palace. That place probably has the most shops anywhere in the strip, never ending.

Tip varies on what your ordering really, I usually tip anywhere from a few dollars for soft drinks, about 5/10 dollars for a beer/wine etc, and obviously the more of you, or if your doing a 'round with mates' adjust accordingly I'd say.

That's what I would do but I guess everyone will have there own opinion on what to tip.

Also I'm not sure if 'tip rates' vary according to where abouts you are at the time but I have only ever gambled in the Wynn and this kinda looks like the min prices it is in there from what I've seen other people tip the waitresses while gambling.

for clothes go to Premium Outlets North, can't say there is much that good in way of electrical

Beer during poker $1 per drink

Yes def get a TR card, you often need cards to enter torunaments anyway and some you will need passport to get a card

thise amounts are totally overboard, never heard of anyone tipping anything of the sort

What cards do you need to enter tournaments? Reward cards?! That seems a bit mental!

Would you tip $1 a drink while playing at slots/table games as well?

some you don't need a card such as Binions, but a lot you do, the reason is that a quick swipe of card and you are regsitered, the systems are automated in the bigger rooms

Here's a full tipping guide for you

Drinks while playing poker/machines/tables $1 per drink

At Bar from $1 up depending on amount and compexity of drinks, 2 beers $1 is fine

Table service drinks 15-18%

Restaurant 15-20% (pre tax)

Taxi 20%

Free Limo $10-20 depending on distance

Bell boy at hotel $1 per bag or maybe $5 all in

Bloke who gets taxi for you $1

Poker dealers $1 per pot, unless a small pot

Poker tourneys, used to be 5-8% but they now withold 3% anyway for dealers almost everywhere, they may be a bit shifty about telling you this, on this basis 3% is now enough

other table games, make a bet for the dealer every so often, a $5 bet once an hour is fine, more if you are doing well

I didn't know dealers could recieve gratuities.....good to know mate, thank you!

Where does free limo's? Just the 'gentleman's' clubs? Would the Platinum car take us to Premium Outlets North, or is that too far out? Also - would the Platinum car pick us up from the Airport?
