Vegas Hotels

I am going to be staying in the luxor next month. I know its meant to be old and dated. But as long as its clean, plus i like it being on the end of the strip, but even better after expedia sales it cost me around £140 for 4 nights.

Any got any experience with shooting guns? i have heard Gun Store is the place to go, any other good options?

Also regarding grand canyon, anyone done a trip there without plane of helicopter? I always wanted to fly around, but now i am swaying towards more of a trip that has a hike into the canyon.

I have used http://www.lasvegasgunrange.net/ as well as the Gun Store. Las Gun Range is quite a bit off strip, much further than Gun Store, but had a better choice of weapons; I shot a Mac 10, MP5, M16 and USP45 while I was there. Gun Store didn't have the Mac 10. It was smaller too and LOADS quieter than the Gun Store but about the same price. Gun store had a 2hr wait at about 3pm whereas we just walked in to the range

This year I will be visiting American Shooters as it seems a bit cheaper than the other two with pretty much same choice. http://www.americanshooters.com/

Grand Canyon trips- we flew to the South Rim and then a little bus dropped us off at two different view points for a walk around and look. Forget hiking unless you are prepared to stay overnight at the Canyon, its a longggggg way down to the river bed and then back up top.

Friends I know have flown helicopter to the west rim, landed inside the 'canyon' and then walked around a bit before flying back. The West rim isn't supposed to be as good as the South.

Hi Rotty, I got a room in Caesars for 340quid Mon-Sat in the end, its in the cheapest tower (forget which one) hopefully the $20 trick will get something in one of the newer towers but still, can't be bad. I thought it would cost a fortune to get in there.

Does that seem like a good deal? There are two of us sharing so it's £170ish each, seems good. Everywhere is packed on the weekend as it's labor day so will probably go to freemont st sat/sun to check that out :)

Our first experience was at the Gun Store, it was ok. But they watched you like a hawk, didn't allow you to handle magazines or ammunition etc.

It depends what you want, if you only want to fire off some guns then it's great, but I found the experiences we have had elsewhere more rewarding.

We have been into Gun Ranges at various places in the US, and everyone except the Gun Store it was a case of Renting a lane, whatever gun and buying boxes of ammo. They give you a quick demo on how to load and handle the gun and off you go, unattended. It's quite daunting a first loading magazines but it is good fun and there is always someone around to help.

The Gun Store is pretty expensive as it's tourist aimed, but they do have a large selection. When we went back to Vegas in 2010 we went to American Shooters. http://www.americanshooters.com/

I can see why this would be more fun, but to be honest I'm not sure it's an experience I would want. While I'm confident and safe when handling guns (lots of experience in my youth), I would not be happy unless I was 100% sure everyone else around we was too. It only takes one idiot being the fool and it'll get very messy very quickly. For me the close supervision was a bonus. I'm surprised my the magazine and ammunition comments though. The chap I had let me handle them all. I did though explicitly ask if I could, he was more than happy to answer all my questions.

Cheers, i'll look at those gun shops. Might just be lazy and checkout gunstore. Have a good 4 hours from landing before we can checkin, so quick dump of the bags then go shoot something.

We are acutally looking at flying to south rim on one of the viator tours.

Just got back today, we stayed at the Monte Carlo, which for us was perfect as it wasn't too big and was fairly quiet so nice to get back to after visiting the others that are really busy, plus it was right in the middle of the strip and cheap. We booked a high floor to get a better room and view which was extra. We didn't get a stip view, that was extra again. Once check in we called down and asked for a pool view as that was the next best thing. The hotel has loads of bar, restaurants, casino, subway, McDonald's, Starbucks plus more. We knew there was a resort fee but it wasn't until we checked out it was a daily fee per room, either that or I forgot which was bummer. Oh and don't get pool view if you sleep in the day on a weekend because it all day pool, parties.

The one show I saw was Absinthe, it was brilliant, I hate musicals etc so this was perfect, it was over 18's, rude, funny and amazing acrobats plus fit women all in one and in a small tent so your right in it with them, can't recommend it enough!

Tips for Vegas, walking shoes, have small notes for tipping, taxis do take card payments, pop to Hash House A Go Go once for breakfast.

The Gun Store, I loved it, nice and safe, no messing, straight in and out but go early!

Definitely gonna book Absinthe tickets after reading this - thanks :)

Also another vote here for Hash House A Go Go - their sage chicken eggs benedict is insanely big!!

Got 14 nights booked for July in the Wynn Tower Suites :) Can't wait!

I took cash before, but have been more sensible and gone with the Halifax credit card this time.

anyone used copilot / android phone as a sat nav in the US ? with data link disabled?

does it work with this disabled (dont want to pay $100 odd dollars for the hire sat nav or for rip off roaming data costs)

I used CoPilot for all my trips, caused me no problems. That was for:

LA - San Francisco - Phoenix - Sedona - Flagstaff - Grand Canyon - LV - Death Valley

Miami - Keywest - Tampa - Orlando

Las Vegas - to Salt Lake City via Scenic Route 12, - Yellowstone, Grand -Tetons - SLC - Moab - Monument Valley - Las Vegas

Washington - Shenadoah NP - Blueridge Parkway - Asheville - Smoky Mountains - Chattanoga - L:ynchburg - Atlanta - Charleston - Savannah - Orlando - Philidelphia - Washington.

It was very reliable, a couple of newer junctions outside orlando, but my maps were quite old. I will stress however I pre programmed all my routes and checked them.

We had a Tower Deluxe room there a couple of weeks ago (Tower rooms supposedly being more modern than those in the main building) and it was great value, very clean, comfortable and spacious, we had no complaints about our room at all. The casino floor wasn't the biggest and it's position on the end of the strip meant more walking but we were very happy with the Luxor.

Didn't expect to enjoy Vegas as much as we did, really missing the alcohol ice drinks that were ubiquitous there! really can't wait to go back :D.

Stayed at the mgm signature bit more relaxed than the MGM as the towers are set back from the main complex. each has a private pool, but it's easy to get to the main pool complex. My next trip i've got a room booked for the hotel that starts with an A. so hopefully that wont disappoint.

Oh and for the guy staying at the Signature in June. its a very nice hotel, the main walk into the MGM takes you past the food court so you can pick up breakfast there then head out onto the strip or spend your day playing poker.

Random question anybody else try that Fourloco stuff while out in Vegas, i swear this stuff has petrol in it, it's like 12% and is pure rocket fuel one can of that and i went a bit loopy ( the 12 double skyy and coke didnt help either) :S

gunstore was great fun infact i might even still have a rough copy of the video i shot there.

What is it the West Rim of if not the grand canyon?

Geographically its still part of the grand Canyon I believe... its just not part of the area designated on a map as being the grand canyon national park.

What is it the West Rim of if not the grand canyon?

It's a side canyon, marketed as the West Rim of the Grand Canyon to con tourists.

It's a Canyon that happens to be connected to the Grand Canyon. It's like going to see a river that flows into the Amazon and then saying you've been to the Amazon...

The wst rim is properly called the west canyon, I thought ir was in the Grand Canyon national park but is not the Grand Canyon
