Vegas Hotels

What would order of preference from these hotels be;

- Platinum (Suite)
- Planet Hollywood
- Signature at MGM Grand

?

They all have good /bad points

Platimum and Sugnature great rooms but a little walk from strip, 10-15 mins though the walk from the Platinum drops you mre centrally

PH very good location but smaller rooms

Signature likely to be a bit more expensive than other 2

None of them are a bad choice

It takes you 5mins to walk from Platinum to PH. I found we spent a lot of time in PH, but we were very please to go back to peace & quiet of Platinum at end of the night / morning.

You will get a lot more for your money at Platinum.

I was leaning towards Platinum- thanks everyone.

All three work at the same using my corporate rate and include breakfast (~£67 a night each). As far as I can tell these are the one up from the most basic room as well.

Anyone done grand canyon tours before? If so, could you recommend the specific tour you done? Looking at doing a helicopter tour.

Also, looking at various shows, and other trips. Is it best to book online first? Or would I get a better deal once in vegas?
What websites have you used to book?

Thanks :)

Show - was there 2 weeks ago, go and see Absinthe, can't recommend it enough, is over 18. Then come back here and thank me. :)

Planet Hollywood a bit loud and brash for my tastes.
MGM Grand needs an update and it be a long walk through the casino to your room.

mgm is /was going through a major overhaul at the end of last year. they might have finished by now.

rooms are much better and a lot more modernised.

the signature is a great hotel and has some lovely strip views.

not stayed at any of the others. Mgm/sig are the only hotels i stay in.

Just book most basic room, then do $20 trick if you want to upgrade. Worked for us. Unless you are going over a very busy holiday period / conference / sports event etc

Thought id post a quick review of our trip:

Flight in on Virgin, went quick and good film selection, food was a bit stingy though, premium economy were getting tons of extra drinks / nibbles - was disappointing after hearing so much about Virgin looking after you
Amazing view of the grand canyon all the way in

Vegas
Such a massive scale, spent the first day just gawping at everything and wondering about in a daze, ate at Cheesecake Factory which was pretty good, massive portions everywhere though (and im a big eater) was bloated for most of Vegas oof.
See what people mean about Caesars now, its cool and very grand / classic feel to it but guess its not as trendy as other hotels
Did the $20 thing (how is it a trick when everyone knows it?) and got a bigger room and amazing view of Bellagio fountains (which were amazing - couldn't stop watching them)

Walked about a lot on second day, did a lap from Caesars upto fashion show mall, down to MGM and then back up the other side, we were done in after that! went to Planet Hollywood (forum shops) and it was rubbish and expensive (avoid!)

Day 3, went to town square and premium outlets shopping, was good nice and quiet and got lots of bargains (£70 Oakley's not bad)

Day 4, Spent at Caesars pool, was pretty darn hot, pool was funny (4ft deep posing pool rather than to swim in lol) drinks were crazy expensive
Went to Bacchanal Buffet, was fun and some nice food, hard to eat $50 worth each but still fun

Day 5, just walked about more, bit more shopping / eating etc

Day 6 drove to LA, took aaages (Sunday and a few accidents on the way)
Worth it for the In-n-out burger on the way

LA
Day 7 - Stayed at Brentwood Inn for a few days, nice cosy little motel,
onto Hollywood (not much there but worth it to see) Mulholland drive (amazing with roof down in the sun) Rodeo (for the misses)
Soupplantation is excellent antidote to Vegas food ($10 salad / soup buffet)

Day 8 - Went to Downtown LA, wanted to see the Bradbury building and it was awesome, cool that you can just pop in and take a photo, misses liked the park from "500 days of Summer". saw the big hair dude from LMFAO with a tennis racquet in a food market
Then onto Griffith park, great view of the sign / LA and observatory was good
ate in a place called R+D kitchen which was really good food / atmosphere

Day 9 - Another day driving about nosing at studios etc,
Moved to Shore hotel in Santa Monica by the pier, lovely hotel
was sore about the $35 a day parking charge for a $430 a night room (grr)
ate in blue plate taco, at the hotel and it was the best thing I ate all holiday

Day 10 - Venice beach bike ride, amazing in the sun, plus sat watching some dude learn to ride a unicycle on a tightrope on the beach for ages
Umami burger for dinner, amazing again, and with awesome IPA selection, bit of a bargain too

Day 11 - Drove along PCH past malibu to santa barbara, PCH was awesome. big burn scars from fires a few days before. SB was cool too, nice and chilled out place for lunch

Day 12 - Spent day wondering about on beach / Santa Monica, ate in "the lobster" on Santa Monica pier, really really good food and service

Day 13 - Flew home :(

tldr : Vegas - mental, bit to partyparty for me but fun to see
LA - much nicer than people say, if you go to the nice bits

3 more days until i fly out to San Francisco! then onto Vegas, cant wait ;)

Does anyone know any shops in vegas (close to the strip) to pickup a decent leatherman, they are half the price state side. I see a couple of outdoor shops away from the strip. Any within walking distance? Don't fancy strolling hours up a desert highway to find one ;)

I've been to Vegas three times now and it was only on the most recent occasion I discovered Town Square. Easily the best and most relaxing shopping experience in Vegas IMHO.

The outlets are decent for bargains but we had a great day at Town Square and there are some great restaurants and bars there too. Yard House comes highly recommended and their fish tacos are amazing.

Town square and nearby premium outlets south like 14 dollars taxi i think
Bargain levis vans oakley american eagle a+f hollister etc
Fashion show is big but normal usa prices
Whats stupid is all the mega designer shops like louis vitton in every casino with 0 customers

One of the Vegas buses stops right outside Town Square. I find they're so efficient and convenient that I don't really bother with taxis there anymore.

Looks like I'll be going to Vegas at the end of November. We're looking at the Ar!a, Ceasars and MGM. Which would be best?

Seven nights, and ideally we'd want a double twin with a sofa bed as well as there'll be three of us. However, a twin and a second room would suffice.
