But most importantly I found another tiler who had experience of encaustic tiles and he had a cancellation before Christmas!

Hopefully it will be done by next week and I can tidy up the decorating/filling here and there

Borders down, dehumidifiers running

First seal goes on over the weekend, grout on Monday, and then final seal.

Will order the upstairs hall carpet after Christmas.

Not heard back from the joiners or plasterer, but it’s pandemic and Christmas so I’ll bother them after new year now

Still crawling forward, plasterer got COVID and has been too tired and unwell to work. So had to do a bit of boarding out myself while waiting for the new guy.

Boxed in rather large shower cable

Used a bit of wooden trim I had lying around to try and hide the varying levels of the different surfaces

Tiling looks good!

Did you not fancy removing /replacing the microbore pipework? I've got some microbore in my new house and wondering if it's worth removing whilst I've got the opportunity to / before I renovate.

Do yourself a huge favour and pull it all out while you have the chance.

What are you doing for ventilation in your workshop?

There isn't any as such, its not a serious workshop its only 1.8m in every dimension, more storage and a hobby desk :D

Mostly microbore can block easier and has poorer flow but flow isn't effected much if the runs are short. Microbore can refer to 8mm or 10mm and still can vary in material and internal diameter.
My house is mainly 22mm pipe with mostly short runs of 10mm to the rads and it works well. I have replaced the 10mm pipes to the huge 5kw rads for 15mm as 10mm might not be able to meet the flow demands but probably could have as they were only about 30cm in length.

Boarding of the garage nearly done.
Few panels left off for the electrics to be access and an extractor to be fitted.

Also had the steel plastered and painted it white.
The OSB will also be stained - bottom half grey and top half white

Got all the walls undercoated, did an extra coat in the little room and that will be the finish

started on the colour, and started stripping the newel post and banister, god what an awful job.
Got the radiator plumbed in too, so for the first time in the houses 150yr history it has heating in the basement :) (not much though!)

Feel like I might be on the final straight with the basement!

Lots of sanding of the banister, newel and stairs.

You can see on the picture I had to add a piece of trim on the stringer against the wall because the insulated boards actually brought the wall level proud of the stringer

Colour going on - coverage is excellent as usual with Johnson's paint - and you can see the little radiator plumbed in. This room will never be kept hot, just don't want it below 15 in the winter

Flooring ordered and will hopefully not be too long. Gone for 8sqm of the cheapest oak parquet I could find!
£25/sqm was the cheapest I could find!!

Matt emulsion?

acrylic durable matt, and water based eggshell for the woodwork.

Varnish still drying on the top steps. And after I took this picture I swapped the bulbs for dimmer narrow beam ones.

The door will be getting dip stripped like the rest when when weather is warmer.

I think the stairs were well worth the effort, and quite pleased with my wine storage.

Also painted and stained the shelves/boot rack I made from an old bed.

Flooring just arrived on a pallet, so will be unpacking that to acclimatise for a week before I think about laying it

Thanks

I’ve randomised and stacked the wood to acclimatise to the room. Quite pleased with it considering it grade B stuff.

Having a week off the DIY before having a go at laying it. I’ve laid a floating t&g engineered floor before, but this stuff has to be glued to the concrete a bit like tiling.

Started to dry lay the flooring down, gone for a 90 deg. herringbone pattern for ease, and its the same pattern I've used elsewhere in the the house, will hopefully stop the room feeling long and narrow.

I've under cut with a multitool the door frames and the newel post. Just got to work out in my head how I begin to lay it all without finishing with a peice out that should be under something immoveable (if that makes sense).

I'm going to prime the self levelling compound with SBR and then use floor adhesive to stick the wood down
