Never used self levelling compound before, lovely stuff to work with, very satisfying.
Over mixed it little and it’s dried with quite a lot of pin holes from bubbles but it will be covered with engineered wood parquet

Second coat of slurry going on the garage walls. This stuff is actually really nice to use and come in 2 different colours to make the second coat easy to get good coverage.

Wasn’t sure whether to get PVC garage door tiles or just epoxy the garage floor but having found the floor had no DPM I’m going to epoxy it.

Oh and also finished cutting the 9” skirting in the spare room

Nice secret door

That’s the access to the suspended floors of the hall and dining room, it’s only about 40x40cm!

Apologies for all the terrible photos as of late, I’ll try and take better ones.

Finished all the slurrry.

Tomorrow I will fit a dimple membrane to the stair well.

Then need to clear all this ready for the epoxy DPM and high build epoxy too cost
Still not chosen a colour yet!

Managed to put up a bit of the dimple membrane. You can plaster or dot + dab straight onto it.

It tucks behind the DPC, with all joints being taped with a very expensive waterproof plaster-able tape.

Wasn’t allowed to drill all the holes necessary for secure fixing as we have a poorly baby today!

Hasnt flooded in the 5yrs I've been there. It was very humid but no standing water and the soil wasn't wet when dug out, anf no wood has rotted in 150yrs!

With all the recent rain is has felt very damp behind the DPM however, so I imagine all my work will direct moisture somewhere, hopefully around the basement and garage and down the slope away from the house

Massive clear out of the garage this weekend and cleaned/etched the concrete with sulphuric acid.

Oh and sealed and fitted a mantle to the upstairs bedroom and started painting the skirting, will grab a pic later

Cracks and bug defects filled with damp tolerant epoxy filler

Whole floor primed with damp tolerant epoxy primer!!
Got my sweat on.
Using a suspended electric heater to raise the temp a bit and shorten curing (don’t judge )

4th bedroom’s chimney breast has been all sealed for a while, stuck a spare fireplace on it. Made a half arsed attempt to paint and position the skirting then got back to the 1st top coat on the garage floor!!

@BigBoy - We had a great debate about the fireplace, all the down stairs ones are central, all the upstairs ones are off centre. Conclusion was to keep it in its original place.

@Hedge - The idea is to put smart fitted shelves in that alcove but after the skirting and picture rail have been fitted. It’s wider than it looks ~50cm

Obviously due to current more important circumstances things haven’t progressed far

Done a bit of painting, finished the skirting and put the original picture rail back up.

Also noticed one of the glazing lanes had flown so seeing if that can be replaced, only 2 years old

curtains and light fitting up, only waiting on carpet now which won’t be until after lockdown

Fitted 8 wide angle spots in the garage. Huge difference! I’m not quite sure how to wire a PIR into the circuit though, any ideas?

In the corner is 300+ hand made clay tiles that were due to go in the hallway before disaster struck!

What happened?

I meant the pandemic

but also I’ve just notice my tanking slurry has bubbled failed in several places, little annoyed and followed the instructions to the letter.

I’ve sent an email to the manufacturer but don’t expect a response any time soon.

Joiners are back studding now restrictions have eased.

Hall hasn’t happened yet unfortunately and is going to be tricky while we are living there, was due to happen while we were on holiday.

More of the tanking slurry has failed now, anywhere that had damp coming through. Rang Everbuild but they weren’t interested.
I’m going to give another brand a go in those areas, not essential as there’s not a lot of moister and I have a ventilated cavity but I have a habit of over engineering things

All finished except for the last couple of noggins, they ran out of wood!

putting another order in tomorrow which should hopefully finish the basement and hall floor.

you can see how badly the slurry has failed in that picture

Nextdoor had a house party night, so first thing this morning seemed like a good time to drill 100+ next to the party wall and finish my tanking around the basement stairs

Really struggling to get materials ordered though

Managed to get a couple of orders in, slower and more expensive than usual.

In the meantime I’ve run a new socket ring main and redone the lighting ring in the basement stairwell and room.

Oh and started to insulate the garage with cheapo polystyrene, with thinks I’m mad in this weather (possibly I am!)

Joiner back tomorrow so hopefully make some more progress

What's the outcome with the slurry? Are you going to go back over it or will it hold?

When we've had quotes from waterproofing firms I was surprised to see the cost for tanking versus cavity membrane as exactly the same.

I've taken off any of the stuff that has failed, you can just about make out above, the rest is still solid.

I'm intending to redo those areas with a different brand, hopefully this weekend, I'm just slowed down by actually getting hold of the stuff at the minute.

I think given enough time slurry will fail to some extent and if this wasn't just a garage and only part underground on 3 sides (with good drainage out the 4th side) I'd definitely be going for a cavity membrane + sump setup
