US: Vikings - anyone else watching this ?

Well that was an intense episode - gripping stuff, if hard to watch at times.

Brave writing to tackle Ragnar's demise mid season, I thought they'd drag it out until the end of the season finale somehow. Kept half expecting a last minute reprieve, but once the snakes came out of the bags I knew it was going to be final. Will be interesting to see how the show changes now, there's plenty of strong and interesting characters, but none come anywhere close to Ragnar.

As he was dying, I wondered if Athelstan would appear to him. Ragnar was christened after all and that would have been a nice touch, to come full circle.

The latest episode 16 from today hence massive spoiler.

This really wound me up, did the Vikings really slaughter Christians but as soon as they get to an Islamic temple they basically decided not to because of one person. Also having to put up with a good 10mins or more of praying in a temple, which was barely a footnote in the churches in the earlier episodes

EDIT : Reading others peoples thoughts on this episode, others feel the same way :(

Yeah i felt the same way, like one of the characters said, that droning was hurting my ears. Sounded like sheep more than anything else

I haven't been able to watch it since....
they killed Ragnar. I was in denial and I was expecting him to get out of it until the very end. Even then I thought "Ah it's Ragnar, he'll climb out and kill them all". Was truly gutted
Not sure when I'll be ready to watch more.

Katheryn Winnick is stupidly hot but the how much time has passed in the show since season 1? Seems like at least 20 years but she seems the same age, they aged Ragnar but they haven't done the same to Lagertha at all

Started watching a week ago and already I am half way S02. This show is just so good. I have to say that some people might get a bit upset while watching it though. Definitely something that I haven't seen before with a lot of WOW moments.

Good to see it renewed, but I'm not sure the show can offer anything beyond this season unless

it becomes a story of Lagertha rather than tale of Ragnar's sons. Let's face it - his sons, as casted, have a grit and screen appeal of a Linsey Lohan dubbed in foreign language. I already dread every scene with Ivar and he's the focus of the Tale that comes after Ragnar. Clive Standen (Rollo) is already assigned to a leading role in another TV show (Taken, he's the younger version of Liam Neeson in TV show), so to me Lagertha is the only redeeming feature of Vikings to come.

In this day and age couldn't they have done something to actually make it look like there was venomous snakes in that pit. It was just a pit full of small pythons.

There is still a lot of mileage in this story, the formation of the great heathen army is just starting and Alfred the Great is already in it, albeit as a young child. Seeing as he was the one to eventually defeat the vikings, one would presume they will cover that storyline. If so, Guthram is still to make an appearance. Mind you, that storyline will start treading on the toes of the BBC1 show, The Last Kingdom.

Have to say though after watching, his last line "I welcome the Valkyries to summon me home" has gone straight into my top 3 of badass movie/TV lines of all time. Especially the growling way he shouts it. When it's said at the end of episode 16, it's almost as if he becomes a God there and then.

After much deliberation I have made the decision, if I get to choose my last words, those will be them. I will feel like am utter badass on my deathbed and the look on my relatives faces will be priceless.
