Vince's Ebay Repair Thread - (Console Repairs & Mods)

Anyone know where to get DualShock 3s in decent condition these days? My mate bought a PS3 slim for £20 yesterday but the controller it came with is in a state.
Almost impossible in my experience. I ended up buying a Brook Wingman XE and then using a Dual Shock 4 or a Dual Sense, it even works with an Xbox One controller.

Edit - By almost impossible I mean most are knackered, and if you buy a new one they are almost 100% one guaranteed to be fake.

I have a hacked PS3 that had been left unused for maybe 9 years. Do they fetch a good price?

Edit: controllers are missing in think.

PS3 is very easy to hack so shouldn't fetch much more, unless you find the right buyer looking for convenience.
I gave away my hacked one last year. Great console, but the phat model is just too damn big.

Oof, sounds expensive. Let me know if it is actually worth doing.

I did it on @randal sons switch... I'll steal one off of a donor reball it and throw it on here. We was successful last time so we shall see. I'll reflow it first see if that sorts it, if not it's proper surgery. We haven't had some reball action in a while :)

I've invested time into far worse, I know it's sort of alive under there we just need to give it a helping hand.

I'd love to know how someone just attempting to change a port can **** something up so badly tbh. The guy blamed the poor kid who broke the port on it, but having to reflow/re-ball a RAM chip says that he was just a &^$^££""%%^

The ram in these is sensitive to heat. Ive seen bsod switches because people fell asleep with them in bed got them wrapped up on the covers and woke up to bsod... normally its the top chip closest to the fan. but in this instance I started with the one closest to the port and yea it was that.

Plot twist... too much heat confirmed...

Can you see the shield for the wifi is sitting up and the board is bent downwards one side of the port? Thats bent enough to put pressure on the ram. I will have to take the port off... bend the board back into shape, reflow the ram and then re-fit the port. that should fix it.

As you can see from the mound of flux I was just going to work on the ram when I spotted it. Could also be a sign I might have to rework the wifi area. And from the smell, they used nasty flux :(

And what it should look like...

It took a lot of heat for a long time to move that shield back and straighten the board let's hope she lives. I guess I'll reflow the ram and throw a port on but first let's see if just straightening the board out has fixes the issue.
