Vince's Ebay Repair Thread - (Console Repairs & Mods)

Look at it all working. But no port, so I'll sort that next...

I think a new port is in order the inside of that one is probably char grilled.

@Journey.. dont be sad its fixed :D - ive reflowed the ram and its now not crashing... can even launch a game. So ports... Want to go all out and spend money on a lite port? or can i just pop a 70p port on and grind it back? The previous tech did the second option (or tried to) im giving you the choice lol

This is how the board looks now. I reflowed both ram chips and the WiFi ic just to be sure.

Bent boards sadly will crack bga arrays so I reflowed everything close to the bend.

You cant really see it because of the light but all the pins eventually got sufficiently tinned, im pretty sure this is the wrong pic I uploaded but aye.. you get the idea, you tin the port first.

Heated the board up again (poor board) at 420c and quickly flowed on a new port this is the job on the anchors:

And the pins themselves. nice solid pins, bad angle under the scope but the port looks good.

New port installed.... now we rebuild :)

I did it on @randal sons switch... I'll steal one off of a donor reball it and throw it on here. We was successful last time so we shall see. I'll reflow it first see if that sorts it, if not it's proper surgery. We haven't had some reball action in a while :)

I've invested time into far worse, I know it's sort of alive under there we just need to give it a helping hand.

Still going strong! Well the SD card reader is a bit temperamental, I've tried to replace it but I think the connector on the PCB is hosed.

The little fella is still over the moon he can play Minecraft mind!

Fairly common for them to wear. If it ever gets to the point where it wont work swing it my way and I can swap the connector on the board over. :) Nice to know its still rocking along! On your one we actually had to replace the ram though, looks like we got away with a re-flow here :) Also because yours was a unpatched v1 I could inject some payloads to narrow down the issue, on these lites you just don't have that luxury sadly so you are working somewhat blind, although in a massive pinch where data is of upmost importance you can fit a chip and inject the same payloads you would on a v1 to narrow it down and also start pulling data if the emmc is visible to the switch.

On the left is a donor pot (alps or some sort of clone) I know is good, from, I think it was a playstation pad of some sort but I stole the other pot to fix a pad. On the right are the other pots which are also used in a variety of pads these ones for example are used in the switch Pro controller and also some clone switch pads like the power a pads.

Really you need to know what is in there to find a suitable replacement. Can be a pain in the arse to change mind as on a lot of pads there are many close by small components.

Edit: just dug out my donor Pro controller and they used genuine alps pots also which is probably why they aren't known to drift much.

And I've stollen a pot from this one as well :)

Thanks for this, I will see if I'm brave enough or if I just buy a new one and then attempt it myself :p

If you wait 2 weeks I should be coming into one of my huge hauls :) We never know what we might get... think my PS2 haul only bigger :D For reference my PS2 haul had boxed sealed ps2 and 3 controllers ;) - Admittedly the ps2 one sold instantly for an insane £135 but aye if I get some nice ones I can crack you a deal... I feel bad as I sold loads of really mint ones recently for way too cheap :(

And ive just checked the toy auction I go to once a quarter (in person auction house) have extended to a two day auction fest this month... super excited!!!

That'd be great thanks! Let us know what you get. Doesn't have to be pristine, just needs to work as it sounds like the one his console came with doesn't!
