Vince's Ebay Repair Thread - (Console Repairs & Mods)

I've rediscovered my old Game Gear from a garage tidy up at the weekend, when powering on the screen comes on for a second and then it goes dead. Reading online this might be something terminal with the capacitors? Anyone have any ideas please?
Recap power board , sound and gamegear , pretty much always fixes :) done so many now . You can test it with no caps on gamegear at all if power board and soundboard are ok as you will get red light boot and sound

Apart from the total 50/50 of if the screen is good :D - When it's a bad screen the fun gets much more involved. You go from replacing 20 caps to removing some 30 components and adding about 15 wires :D but the end result is total win.

Those wireless pads are amazing!

Not had a chance to have a play with it yet but am excited to have a play :D - On the hunt for a few more games for it but apparently most of the games I would like are all loads of money. Things like Nights into Dreams and a few others.

I built 3 DMG's all using custom cases and the same parts, LCD's etc! 2 I will sell... This is my favourite and the one I think I will keep :)

oh and I have another 4 ps3 pads... all faulty, bought for £10 plus postage! Now I can make a load of nice pads!

I have a load of the black alps pots and some IC's on the way - I don't see any reason why we can't restore them all!! 5 genuine pads and just the one clone.

Also need to sort through all my switch donors, might rework some of the early ones where I wasn't quite as good at all this as I am now... Half of those are probably fixable knowing what I know now. You can also see another one of the restored DMG's at the back there :)

Look forward to some good photos of your work!

I've already finished 2 of them :p the 3rd is so bad there is no way. I did steal its m92 to fix the grey one. One of the pink ones went straight in the bin stinks of sick and is full of sick, started gagging working on it so that's a straight no. To the bin.

Just gotta say, Vince, the job you did on the surface was top draw, also seems way quicker than before. I owe you a pie n a pint, next time im in essex :p

Happy to hear it dude :D took us a while to get there but I was happy with how it came out... those screens are a total pita though I wont lie. :D With any other device you can just open it up again if you mess up and its not a massive issue. With anything like that you can't really afford to make a mistake so longer in testing is pretty much a must.

Did I show you guys my complete mercury commander? This is basically the peak of technology in 1982 :D That's two years older than me at 41 years old and it still works!!

Not a keeper for me but still super cool and I even managed to tune her into my modern samsung smart TV and play a selection of the worst games known to man :)

@Vince or any of you others that repair things. Where do you get your spare parts from?

I have a couple of nintendo joycons that need repair, one needs a replacement charging rail, the other a whole new thumb stick thing..

I've had a google but some of the spare parts I found seem quite expensive, so just wondered if there was a secret spare parts shop i can't find.

Thanks in advance.

Let me know what you want and I can hook you up - I buy sticks in bulk from china for 60p each and have probably 10 or more switch joycon donor boards :)
