Vince's Repair Thread - (Console Repairs & Mods)

Morning seems my son's switch no longer charges without us having to manually hold the charging wire or dock under pressure. I presume the internal connector is borked. Any easy way to fix or is it dead?

It's fixable but sounds like the port is done. best way to fix this bad boy is send it to somebody who can pop a new port on (at this point repeatedly trying to charge it could result in more damage to pmic / video ic). Send it to somebody trusted who knows what they are doing though as ive fixed peoples switches where they have gone in to somebody on facebook or something with a simple broken port and came back out with serious issues like blue screens of death (the switch @Journey sent in comes to mind). A port replacement on these is fairly simple if you know how but can seem almost impossible if you dont have that experience with them. You can always send it to me and I can sort it for you if you wish?

@Vince - have you come across any issues with Switch Docks that won't produce any display on a TV? Mine charges the switch fine, but doesn't seem to want to display anything in docked mode. I've tried replacing the HDMI lead, different HDMI port on TV etc, as well as fully powering down the charge etc.

Just wondering if it's something you've come across and whether it's likely to be the dock at fault or the actual switch?

Could be either most likely the switch - The switch charge port has 10 lines that go to a chip called PI3 and that controls docking. 9 times out of 10 its the port or a blown filter (normally caused by the port) on the lines that go out to pi3. Have a look inside the port do you see any bent pins? Normally crossed data lines in the port at fault.

If the dock is at fault its almost always m92t55 (Main pmic) in the dock thats died. Seen this a few times but it really isnt common. Happy for you to swing it in and I can fix it for you - I have stock on t55 as well as ports etc. My bet is its the switch.

Thanks for the quick reply - I'll take a look later :)

If you need a fix let me know and I can fix it up for you also - just popping a new port or some filters on isn't exactly hard work for me and I have a ton of donors and new ports so if you end up down that road and want me to fix it for you just shout :)

Appreciate that - thank you

Always a pleasure my dude and of course no charge just pay for parts is the way we roll if it needs looking at. (Parts wise worst case is like a tenner - port + pi3 plus a filter or 2) best case is the massive 70p I pay for a port (its actually 69p so im overcharging lol).

@Vince any interest in that Dell precision 5520 laptop I mentioned ages ago, new boards are still hundreds and hundreds and as its still a capable machine, wouldnt mind resurrecting it for one of my daughters. It has an Nvidia m1200 chip in it so would still play their games fine.
Ive waited patiently waiting to see when you ran out of work but seem to be flat out all the time! :D

Yea man swing it to me :) you got my deets? I did that ryzen 9 / 2080 one with power issues so giving this a bash cant be any worse lol. I wonder how that machine is getting on it came back after the initial repair with more issues which we fixed and rolled it back again! Hopefully its still going strong! @embalse - How is she doing fella?

You do sometimes have to nudge me on things as I cant remember everything - Most of the time I cant remember yesterday!

Works for me - If I have a massive backlog im always a bit cautios about taking things on as I cant guarantee how long a turnaround will take me. Some people I end up with their stuff for months so I try and be careful and realistic. Right now im pretty empty got a power supply and a few other items but its not crazy!
