Virgin Media Discussion Thread

After 2 1/2 months 4 modems and countless technicians I can say my internet works fine now. Except for when the wife can't connect to wireless at night, but believe that is down to this damned superhub :/

i upgraded from 20mb from 10mb (while the 30mb was also on offer) through retentions for free

and i didnt have to change any of my setup :p

mabe 20mb will be a better option for u ?

that's interesting - i might give them a call. the promised bridge mode update is getting delayed again and again and i'm fed up of waiting

Had virgin media 50mb since it first came out, but upgraded a few services and guess what? They installed the failhub...

But luckily I had a decent engineer come, Asked if I could keep my old modem and not install the superhub. He tried to scan it to reactivate it but it declined him, But he said he'll leave the old modem with me and if I had any problems (Which he laughed, I.E yes I would!) phone virgin and insist they reactivate the old modem or you'll cancel your service.

Well at first the superhub was fine just like the old modem for browsing and watching videos etc

Got blackops for pc today, When loading the server browser list bang superhub would drop and need rebooting to get net back, this happened every single time.

Phoned virgin got through to a person who could barely speak English, He managed to get into the superhub in the end, Done a few tweaks and said "Should be fixed" well well.. What a surprise, Still happening.

Phoned back this time got through to a nice chap who was English, Explained it all he said that reactivating old modem wouldn’t be a problem... 2minutes later old modem backup and running.. What a surprise all fixed!!

Back to my old trusted modem with Netgear WNR2000 v2 and DD-WRT firmware, As with the past god knows how long not a single problem :)

Hopefully soon enough virgin will realise they should bring back the old modems and get rid of the failhub..

/end rant

I'm getting the 50mb service in a couple of weeks, I'll have the 28 day cancellation period if I need to cancel, hopefully this superhub will be ok.

Whats the deal with using another router if I wanted to, is it possible to go and buy one and it use it?

Yes you can setup the super hub to act like a modem and just have one cable from it to a decent router.

Does the 30MB Service have traffic shaping? I have been downloading a bit from newsgroups and my connection seems to top out at 8mb. Any ideas chaps?

On the 50MB service - I know you get the superhub but is it easy to just go and buy a Netgear router and make a switch? Or is it more complicated than that?

I'd prefer not to have 2 devices just the one.

So you cannot just use a different router altogether?

They are meant to be releasing a firmware that has the option to disable the router inside the Superhub and so it will act just as a modem on its own, but the release for this said firmware has been delayed a few times now so no idea when it will actually be released.

im currently using my Super Blooper as a modem only and have a Belkin N1 Vision as my router / wifi network. Saying that the Super Hub is fine as a Wired Gigabit hub.

Harry you cannot use another router only as you still need a Virgin modem to talk to there network. No routers you can buy in the shop are a virgin "modem" as the setup is quite specific for virgin its not as simple as a Dial up or ADSL line. How ever the Virgin internet IMO is the best you can get they have just failed at there Superhub

well ive fixed my dueperhub issues

un-tick all these boxes
