Virgin Media Discussion Thread

I don't see what all the fuss is about regarding the Superhub. I've just disabled all the rubbish it comes with and using it purely as a modem I’ve bridged my old router. WRT54GL, which is totally fine.

I did the same, but still had major issues (Sort of explained above)

It may just be certain things that cause the Superhub to brick it and run so to speak, or could be luck of the draw to get a decent 100% working one but going by the amount of users having issues I doubt it.

Getting vm on 25th or something, would you recommend using my other router as a router and the superhub as a modem? I would like gigabit as well, but I would rather not have problems and just get a £15 gigabit switch.

Gentlemen,

I've been a V man for a very long time. 50mb has been splendid but have noticed 100Mb is now available to me.

Thinking of getting that and the 500GB Tivo, but back to the BB. I use an Apple Airport with the 50Mb router, as I read above will it be ok to keep the router and just 'upgrade' over the phone, reset my router and jolly good show I've got 100Mb? or is this failhub part of the deal?

I'm a VIP with a monthly bill of around £120, includes everything and telephone extra's like caller ID / number withheld blocking and 200 minutes of 08 numbers.

With that in mind anyone reckon I'll be able to swindle the BB upgrade & tivo for free? :p

Tallyho.

£120 a month, Virgin should throw in a free Virgin for that amount of cash! I think you have a lot of bargaining power with virgin and free upgrades shouldn't be a problem.

Switching over to Virgin 50Mb has proved to be more of a headache than I was expecting :(.

Since it was installed, anything other than wired has been insanely slow, slowest speedtest result being a ridiculous 0.82Mb/s .

After allowing remote access to a technician all seemed fine, that is until I tried connecting my PS3, 360 and main desktop to the network. Turns out he'd changed the wireless band from 2.4Ghz to 5Ghz, so now my options are to either have everything connected at pathetically slow speeds, or have a couple devices connected at full speed and the ones I actually use most not connected at all. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Seems crazy that it can go from barely working at 2.4Ghz to working fully (though only for certain devices) at 5Ghz.

Maybe this post will help.

When I first got VM 50mb installed in Febuary I was given a Superhub. The Superhub is a total disaster and I can't believe it was allowed to be rolled out in the state the firmware is in and to this day. The awaited Bridge mode has been delayed multiple times (now delayed until July) and I wasn't prepaired to wait any longer. Superhub has poor wireless performace, drop outs throughout the day, stuck connections on FTP and SSH and a manner of other issues. I forced them within my 28 day notice to get rid of the Superhub and give me a VNMG300 instead or I would cancel and they did after a lot of complaining, but it wasn't easy!

Since I've had the VNMG300 my service has been excellent and very stable. My upload upgrade was done on the 6th May which was great and on the 15th May I was able to order 100mb!

Got 100mb installed on the 19th May but it was a long morning. First I had to tell two VM engineers who came around to **** off cause they wouldn't install 100mb on my VNMG300 and insisted that I would need a Superhub, no way I'm getting that Superhub again! Their installation department phoned me shortly after the engineers left and still insisted I would need the Superhub or I wont be getting the 100mb service, I didn't believe a word they said and said I will take this matter further!

After many calls to Techincal Support/Customer Service and Customer Relations and being fobbed off many times that the VNMG300 would not work on 100mb. I finally managed to get someone who agreed with me and they managed to force the 100mb config to my VNMG300 without any engineer present and now I have 100mb without the headache of the Superhub!

Just get a cheap wireless switch, most of the problems of the fail hub come from the wireless.

Came here to post my experience and basically a similar story for me. However technical and the CEO office both acknowledge the Superhub for speeds for 100mb it has been a bit of a disaster and rushed out without proper testing and stable firmware. Infact they were like if you can get hold of a VNMG300 somehow (they have run out of them) they will make it work on the 100mb and the guy in technical was convinced it would solve my problems and it did! They reckon end of July start of Aug ETA on new firmware which should solve the problems, I'm no expert but this firmware has been in the work for months now, surely shouldn't take this long? I mean they kept wanting to send engineers out as all the tests were coming back fine. The problem was just the Superhub

Went from around 55-65 mb download and 1 - 1.5 upload to
