Virgin Media Discussion Thread

phate try this dial 150 or what free virgin service number is go through option for cancelling the service and tell them they patch you throught to correct service and uk call center one no india base center. i do all the time as i gotten sick of india call center as they just read from a script and can't do proper check.

So if I upgrade, I'll have to take the superhub, and give up my £300 cisco router? Or buy a VMNG300 off ebay and beg to use that?

Nah just use the superhub as a modem. I've got a Netgear WN3500 N router works wonderfully on our 50mb connection.

All round the house generally wireless picking up 300mbps, except spare room which drops often to 270mbps. The actual net connection, the sloweest its ever been is 46.8mbps during peak time which is pretty fair tbh, better than Sky or BT on their copper ADSL, plus Virgin truely is unlimited. I have downloaded over 60GB in one evening with no problems

As for 100mb, i can't comment. But i wouldn't recommend using the superhub as its very much cheap and cheerful, nothign special

update 100mb service look like it alreadly been depolyed in the west midlands. as for unlimited download from what i've just read off the site, 10mb,30mb,50mb and 100mb all have unlimited download but what i suppect is that 50mb and 100mb will have priority over the other service at perk time for download speed. as current 50mb service has priority of the other service during perk time and time when heavy download/ internet use is happening during off perk time. oh before i forget the 1.5Gb cable broadband trial in east London only at the moment.

Wouldn't 1.5gb speeds basically mean you are downloading faster than your hard drive can write? How does that work, just curious

I suspect it will be limited to the drives write speed, I guess raided SSDs might not be limited but they would fill up very quickly.

Upgraded to 50 meg a few days ago....

Could someone please, please look at the powersupply for their superhub?

Noticed my power supply is only rated at 800mA.... the superhub says it should be 1.5A.

The voltage is correct but I think the rating is too low. Would explain why its (the power supply) getting *damned* hot!

Looks like this is a common problem from googling, but want to confirm that other users do indeed have a 12v, 1.5A power supply, not one rated at only 800mA.

Thanks guys!!

same here mine comes 15th of august. i used my cancelation trick to get to a uk call center as i try yesterday to order it but forgot to do it so i got thought to india the connection was that bad i could be cracking and pops so i hung up but by that time uk center had close for the nite.

Which router is generally regarded as the best and most reliable for Virgin's 50mb service? I've currently got the VMNG300 modem, which is fine, and the Netgear WRT2000, which is absolutely atrocious.

I have no end of problems with the Netgear and I really just want something that will work. It suffers from constant wireless drop outs and, indeed, it takes about half an hour after switching it on in the morning to actually give any kind of stable signal through Ethernet. I've plugged the PC straight into the VMNG300 modem and the connection is solid as a rock. Any suggestions?

Cant get 100Mb yet here, but has anyone got the Virgin Wireless N Adaptor?

Got mine ordered today for free as im already a 50Mb customer... had to complain and threaten to cancel (ie get put through to the UK) as 'Dave' from India wanted to charge me £25.

Anyway is the thing any good? I can be wired as well, but I think this gives me flexibility if the wires annoy me and incase I get a wi-fi printer thingy.
