Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Still showing as "Planned" for Gateshead area. Can they please hurry up? I got tons of Steam games I still want to download :p

I guess the Wireless situation won't bother me that much, only thing that's on wireless in the house is my phone, everything else is hardwired.

So I had the superhub wireless enabled for all of about a day before I gave in and attached my old Netgear router as a wireless access point. Whilst it made the connection better I still don't get decent speeds from it (barely touch 2MB/s, usually drpping to below 100KB/s) and it fluctuates a lot, now I know the old router was very stable wirelessly so have I missed a setting somewhere in the superhub?

I just upgraded from 50mb to 100mb for £7 more a month, They be charging me £30 for the super hub though, But who cares for double the bandwidth, I'll jump on that band wagon thank you very much lol, The guy didn't seem to know what he was doing... he said tuesday to get my superhub to me, And he called on Saturday, I'll be surpised if it's here tomorrow, As he also said that he would cal me back again, He never did so i can only sit around and wait now..

Nat.

Well the Super hub has come, I installed the hub, I ended up talking about shoes to the girl activating the hub for me lol. Long story short it's all running, Speedtested it and i got this.

Not bad, Natty.

Ringing now to nion demand a WNMG300 :)

EDIT: Got through finally, bloke claimed they didn't provide it anymore, I said I wanted a new superhub then and I'll source my own router in a few weeks time, he claimed he couldn't send it due to me being at work and not being able to check my settings, which I said was rubbish, demanded a router, and now its on its way :)

I hope you know that you will be under a new 1 year contract with VM.
But if you do all is ok with the world :D

Im currently on 30mb and as i dont have a VM phoneline im paying £28.50 a month.

If i want to upgrade to 50mb,will i pay £35 without a VM phoneline???

Ive looked on my Virgin Media but it just says VM will call me to tell me the upgrade difference in price,i would rather know first before i order.

Sorry if this has been answered already folks, but I wanted to double check.

If you upgrade to 100mbit, you have to use this "superhub"?
Sounds like people have had a lot of problems with it?

Spoke to VM last night and they said they could do 100mbit for me for £27 a month + 30 setup fee. Good or not?

Ask VM for a self install pack then after you have got the Super hub online they will upgrade it to 100Mb

On the plus side you get a very long Cat5 cable+clips and a 3 way splitter and 3 short Coax cables in the self install kit.

Is it easy to do the setup yourself? Is it literally a case of switching over the old box to the new superhub and then call VM to switch over to 100mbit?

Also are there many problems with the superhub?

If you get a self install kit you just replace the modem with the Hub then call VM(the number is in the manual)
They actervate the hub but as for upgrading to 100Mb I belive they can do it with out a tech coming out.

If you do it this way make sure it's the SELF INSTALL KIT and not just the super hub.

EDIT=the wireless is a bit naff but there is plenty on the hub in this section.

Anyone else think here that anything over 30mb is overkill? I currently have around 37mb. I used to have around 20mb. I can hardly notice the difference and I game online everyday, download, upload videos etc

i'm on the 50mb up here in the north east, i've had it since last spetember, we still haven't got the 100mb in or had the 5mb upload yet!.
