Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Just saw that I'm out of contact with the oompf bundle in 3 weeks. Has any existing customers had any luck at upgrading to volt at the rate for new customers? I get I'll have to go through the cancellation sing and dance, but just looking at what limitations I'll be looking at.

I think you'll definitely be able to get a deal that you will find palatable if you speak to right representative. What I would suggest though when you begin your negotiation process with a Virgin rep or maybe you'll even need to speak to a few before you get a deal that works for you as each rep will claim they can only do this or that, but record all your calls that you have with them. Put you phone on load speaker and if you have a second mobile put it on video record or something so it records the audio unless your know of a dedicated app that does the job. I think a recording is important if an agent offers you something that you're happy with as a record of that call isn't always forthcoming if you need to call back to confirm that deal. Make sure you confirm every detail on that call that is being recorded so you have proof, like how much you'll be paying each month and what package you'll be receiving for example.

So i.ve moved from asus ac88u to dell sff installed open wrt,and have been running it for few week but not seeing a huge benefit.

What were you hoping for it to do? It can't fix the latency and contention inherent in the VM network.

Main benefit is the smart queue management works pretty well on open wrt. I found general net usage a bit snappier with it on. It can't fix the usual VM latency though.

Agree smart que works great, website are rather snappy, bufferbloat is nonexistant, just feel that a reduction in latency would also be noticed, might go back to sh4 for week or so.

Has anyone here got LAGG working between a Hub 4 and pfSense?

I believe I've configured it correctly but speedtests are only showing around 950Mbps still.

I've seen passing comments from some who claim they have it working but no actual details on configuration with which to compare. I've set up my LAGG config as 'ROUNDROBIN' which should be equivalent to the 'balance-rr' on the Mikrotik devices.

If anyone can shed any light?

EDIT: Ignore me, I'm an idiot, all working now.

£3.25 price hike in march I'm told.

But also told I can leave contract immediately as a result. Time to look around and have another squint at the vm business packages.

Received letter about the price hike , shame I dont have anyone else in the area that can give 100mb+ other than VM and dont wanna drop below 100mb so cant say another provider is offering something cheaper when no one else can provide the same speed saying that I still can get better deal with VM when contract ends and calling thinking of leaving usually I say why do new customers have better offers which seems to work :)

Lie, they are not going to check every time someone calls up but I am in the same boat here as I have no 5G in my area and the other providers do a max of 65mb but will guarantee of 50mb.

How much are you paying at the moment for your 100mb service? mines £43 a month but I only have BB from them.

If you are happy with lying and end up paying £43 for 100mb line then you are doing it wrong. Should be less than half that.

Anybody able to help

I left Virgin last month as my bill increased to ~£70, they told me as I was leaving half way through the month my bill would get an ~£30 credit and then the Direct Debit would be taken.
Well, that didn't happen, they billed me the full £70 and 2 weeks later gave a credit on my account of £30! What good is that now I have left?

Anybody have a direct number to get this sent to my bank account? Very tired of being on hold for 20 minutes before speaking to someone, then being passed from person to person, only to have the phone put down on me multiple times when I told them I didn't want to rejoin!

This is why I hate calling Virgin, they never do what they say and it becomes more hassle than its worth

Don't know if it will help, but I shared an 0800 number in my last post which got me straight through to a UK call centre.
The number I rang was 0800 952 2277.

Regardless If they check or not I just wanna cover myself so rather not lie
I currently pay £25 per month for 100mb my previous contract ended and it went to around £44 , once current contract ends it's gonna go to around £40+ and the cycle continues

Looking at broadband deals online which find you the best deals https://www.moneysupermarket.com/broadband/ virgin always offers low prices for new customers for example 100mb at that time was £24

So I just call to say I wanna cancel and ask how come new customers get good deals while older loyal customers pay almost double for the same package or I just say will move to another provider although they are only around 60mb they are around £20 or so

And every time they lower the price :)

I really dislike calling and going through the process but when it's almost half the difference that's what gets me through it

Same, I have been with Vrigin since they where Cabl Tel\NTL days and I get nothing for being loyal but if I was a new customer its really cheap!

threaten to leave and take it out in my name for the cheaper price as its in the other halfs name atm lol

Anybody managed to get a newer router from VM for free and without upgrading anything ?

We have the home hub 3 and the wireless connectivity is awful in different rooms.

Wondered if upgrading the router will help ?

My bill was going up to £147.
That was with 2 boxes. all the channels. phone line (never used it once). mobile sim card. going to put my internet to 1gig. Got this down to £110 but then decided to get
Internet (give me 350mb) and sim card got it for £45 a month.
Do virgin take the tv boxes back? If so what is best to do now just to watch the normal tv channels. Dont have tv aerial.

Got straight through to retantions using the 0845 number, and asked to cancel. Got offered the Volt deal for £99 without having to haggle and took it. Pretty painless process, without actually cancelling which i generally have to do.

£43! Bloody hell, I've just signed up at £25. I wouldn't say it's worth that much extra. I expect I'll be back at Vodafone in 18 months as at £21 ppm I think it's good value. How much bandwidth do people really need etc etc.
