Virgin Media Discussion Thread

This company has given me grief and stress for 5 weeks. I need to get rid of them asap.

It's annoying that they have the monopoly of fibre, and everyone else is playing catchup :(
I wish I could move away from vm but no 5g here or anyone else who can provide decent speeds

Inbound retentions - the people you speak to when you call up to cancel.
Outbound retentions - the people who call you after you've requested cancellation.

In most of these businesses, the latter department has more discounting power than the former

Got an sms this morning from VM

Hi, it’s Virgin Media here. We’re super confident you’ll know just how Ultra-Fast & Entertaining our services are and that we’d really want you to stay with us. Infact we would love an opportunity to discuss you package and price with you in more detail. If this is something you would like or if something has changed – please call us on 02037436949 and our dedicated team will be happy to help.

Sense check please chaps - Virgin have put in FTTP outside my house over the last few months and are now ready to go. Offering me 200mbps and double data for £25 monthly and can waive the upfront cost and give me a months free. Seems like a no brainer in comparison to my 30mbps FTTC @ £30 a month - what's the catch?

There isn't a catch. Except it's VM. Every house where I live is having an upgrade. VM is coming in our area as well.

What's that meant to mean? Oh and because I'm on O2 sim only they can offer double data for my existing plan as well which I don't really have a need for but OK I guess.

It's Virgin Media. The complaints has increased for VM over the last year. Not sure if I would be tempted to jump over to them, it might be different on their FTTP packages rather than their COAX.

Hmm OK. That's pretty vague but thanks for the heads up.

My only concern is that my current provider doesn't shape block or throttle IPTV and Virgin most likely will so I would have to go back to the VPN life fiddling with settings and server hopping etc which I'm not so keen on but small price to pay in comparison to cheaper monthly and huge speed boost I guess...

Give it a go for a short while while you still have your FTTC connection, you can cancel within the cooling off period.

Their CS are rude, liars and generally not easy to deal with. But if the service is good, then I’d rather the higher bandwidth. Or you could be in a congested area, so would see high hitter/latency etc. but they are much better than say 10 years ago.

Dont think VM shape/throttle anything.

One gripe I have is their website. An existing customer should be able to simply log in, and view whatever bundles/packages are available there instead of having to ring them and hope you get the good call center.
I mean I can look at some deals through a google search but not from within VM's website, it just does a redirect loop and ends at "chat now etc"

Curious, its a couple months off but are the Black Friday deals reasonable? Like worth waiting for instead of taking a deal now
What sort of packages are people using?

So, my mate was told that he wouldn't be getting the SH5 as he wasn't upgrading to the Giga service thing, to get that he would have to pay £67 a month, so he told them that he'd be actioning his cancellation during the 'cooling off' period, so now they're sending him the SH5 and upgrading him to the Giga service and he'll still onlybe paying his original £42 a month..

Sounds like a win to me..

You guys are getting great deals with Virgin, I was paying £39 a month for only 100Mb and talk anytime with landline, my 18 months expired a few days ago so I phoned and said cancel my Virgin account (30 days notice), since it went up to £62 a month from 2nd September, they offered me £39 for 100Mb and talk weekends only with phone, connection wise it has been excellent but seems so pricey compared to you guys.

Anyway I'm in the 14 day grace period to cancel Virgin if I don't want to pay £39 a month.

Calls and being an existing customer is driving your price up. It also helps if you can pitch them against another fttp provider.

If there is someone else in your household, then the 350mbit package is £34pm with a £95 amazon voucher on MSE. 500mbit is £38, same voucher.

Is that with or without a landline can I ask?

Has anyone had issues leaving VM?

I cancelled on the 11th and was issued a final bill. Direct debit was left intact and they took the 40 quid or so. I've now received 2 or 3 letters claiming the payment was never collected.

Pain in the arse as their telephone service is just designed to disconnect you and redirect you to the website...

Phone your bank and dispute the DD charges if you've paid anything above what you were meant to pay, wait for VM to phone you. If you have written confirmation that you've ceased the service and have paid the final bill then you're in the clear.
