Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Internal brick walls? Concrete floors? Several steel supports maybe? All factors that can effect Wi-Fi signal penetrating even the next room.

But sounds like the power plugs are problematic. They’re not great from my experience years ago. Vowed to never touch them again as just PITA not worth the hassle.

Find a decent Wi-Fi mesh kit and hardwire it. Job done.

If you live in a big home, a different single router isn’t ever going to make a difference.
1600 sq foot house and a single AP mounted upstairs on the ceiling centrally covers the entire home. The issue with ISP routers is that they're nearly almost always placed in a corner or the edge of a house, which is the worst place for wireless.

Hey Guys, Is anyone aware of UDP Issues with the Superhub3. It looks like it can easily be overwhelmed by a reasonable amount of UDP packets. Ive battled with this for over two years before I could attribute it to UDP being the cause.
VM apparently don't seem to want to fix this, so I wonder if anyone else may have found a workaround.

Black Friday deals, I cant see any gigabit deals that don't involve an unneeded O2 unlimited sim. That said it is 17 quid a month cheaper than what im paying for the 500Mbps and Maxit plan im on now, do I renew with this and just leave the sim in a cupboard (I dont have any tablets etc that need a sim)?

This has been known about for years, unfortunately. As above, if it's unfortunately 'broken' then ask for a new one. I doubt they have any of those to replace it with, so fingers crossed. You may even get lucky and receive a 5.

I have just rejoined Virgin and they sent out a brand new hub3, I think they have plenty left. It's still as bad as I remeber it, was hoping for at least a hub4.

I'd be surprised if it was brand new, when we've had the Hub 4 and Hub 5 since then... They do recondition returned ones, apparently. In that case I'd ask for a Hub 4 or even 5 @Bongman - if you're out of contract that's some leverage for you, but even if not a sympathetic support person may be willing. Ask on their forum and explain why, maybe.

Currently with BT on their 80/20 Mbps package.

Only thing available that is faster is Virgin.

With Virgin I could probably get the 362Mbps service for the same price I pay for BT.

However BT have been solid for the years I've been with them. Cant remember having any problem at all with the broadband.

Full download speeds, no throttling basically everything is perfecto.

We also have BT TV.

What is Virgin like?

Recommend?

I rang and cancelled blast month.
Was on
250mb
Weekend calls
15GB SIM
£37.99

The best they could do last month was £34 250mb & weekend calls. So I went ahead with the cancellation. Moved the number to Voxi as it's better where we live.

Today looked at my account, I was being charged for next month. So I rang up cancellations, and looked like I had another hub 5 on its way.

So I asked what's the best you can do for me to stay. So got me to £31 and increased my speed to 350mb.

So I am happy with that as it's only £1 more than, the cheapest 250mb new customer I could find.

I was on BT for a long time, was solid but paid the same amount as a 500mb Virgin package.

Moved now to 1GB Virgin £52 a month without line and it's been rock solid not been down once since Feb when it was installed.

When I switched over I kept my BT net still available until they fully installed the new VM line.

Downloading games at 145mb/s compared to 7mb/s with BT.....also my line always hits capped speed.

Has anyone on Gig1 who has had volt benefits applied since downgraded to M500 and had the speed doubled back to Gig1 via the volt benefit? I'm wondering if it's a smooth process as I can save a fair bit if it works.

Tried going through WhatsApp to explain this but the agent I got passed to could barely type a coherent sentence in English and just kept saying I can't get Gig1 speeds on the M500 package lmao

Activated Volt on the 14th October and by the 21st my Volt benefits had been applied on the O2 side but I'm still waiting for Virgin to activate their end. Called up about 2 weeks ago and ended up filling out some missing volt benefits form. Really hoping I don't need to call them again but I am concerned that I was on M200 and maybe the free upgrade to M250 they gave everyone messed it up. Both names and addresses match too so, so much for 2 weeks.

Strange, mine took about a week I think. Tried a modem reboot?

I'm moving away from Virgin. Been with them for years but my connection drops out here and there, it's terrible for gaming, especially when more than one person is trying to game and for the first time since going up a speed, it's not better than it's advertised at. My old 300 used to get about 350, 350 got closer to 400 and 500 got about 550. The 1Gb gets about 900Mb. Still plenty fast enough but it's not a good service in my area. This is with wired connections and a superhub 5.

I'm moving to youfibre. Same price (£35 per month) but 900/900. The faster upload should help and the price is locked for 2 years :)
