Virgin Media Discussion Thread

I take it because I re-contracted last month I won’t get the price increase
Letter will be in the post…

I had a contract august 22 to feb 24.

They were going to hike the price by 30%. Permitted to alter mid contract but I could leave with no penalty.

Went through the painful “negotiation”. At least you can do the chat over WhatsApp, took 7.5 hrs to get sorted…
I am Now paying 30% less than before….

If they’d left me alone I was happy with the deal I had!

The problem I always have, come negotiation time, is that I'm a heavy user and I have no viable alternatives as there's no FTTP here (and I suspect they know this) which weakens my bargaining position and any threats to leave.

I also only take broadband from them so there's no bundle they can 'manipulate'.

Just say you can't afford it anymore, there is no argument about anything then I find.

Power level is a bit high but within spec, can be brought down by engineer moving you to another tap in the green cab or by fitting an attenuator. Rest looks fine.
I'm quite surprised at how these 5's hold up.

@Drake5 How long was that modem up for, It's a bit loud on the up and you don't appear to have any Timeouts or PreRS Errors is why I'm asking.

The problem I always have, come negotiation time, is that I'm a heavy user and I have no viable alternatives as there's no FTTP here (and I suspect they know this) which weakens my bargaining position and any threats to leave.

I also only take broadband from them so there's no bundle they can 'manipulate'.
I'm also a heavy user and my area has no alternatives for high-speed BB, but you still can negotiate. Just say you want to cancel and are not interested to hear about any deals. Let them put you on the cancellation team and you will get better offers. However, if you still want more discount just go ahead to give 30 notice and wait for the retention team to call you.

I blagged it and said an alt net was building in my area very soon. They have done some streets quite close by, but there are no plans in the immediate future to cover mine.

Managed to get Gig1 down to £28 after a few attempts.

How the **** do you get them that low? I never seem to have any luck getting good deals like that.

Do you have to specifically ask to speak to retentions? Call their bluff and say you're leaving?

It's city fibre through Vodafone. Got an offer through the post as city fibre had just laid the network in my area.

Was great timing as my virgin contract had just run out the week before :D

Nice one.

I haven't had my price increase notice from Virgin yet, but looking at alternatives, of which Vodafone is one, but not at your price!

They offered me my 250mb broadband for £23 to try and get me to stay. I had been paying £44 a month.

I knew they'd been gouging for years though, but there was no viable alternative.

Glad I told them where to go :p

Enjoying my 900mb fttp for £30 a month.
Snap.

Did Vodafone gives you mesh WiFi setup with that?

Also did you have the option of Community Fibre directly?
