Virgin Media Discussion Thread

That's on point, the reason for the uplift is to maintain a 10:1 ratio across all their packages.
To be honest I do not use the upload much but sometimes comes handy when having to upload stuff to customers as I WFH

No issues with my internet but a few days ago my SH4 suddenly decided to reboot\loose connection but after 5 mins or so of waiting for the router to come back online it was fine again

Does anyone know if one can keep these Wifi pods after your contract is up or do you have to give them back?

Asking on behalf of a friend....:D

I would think you have to give them back. I’ve seen some for sale though in certain places.

Probably like the router.

Just confirmed - yes the kit all belongs to virgin media.

Having problems with my network, plex in unraid to Apple TV 4K having bandwidth problems and only playing at 320 and have been told this “ The issue is definitely at the router. If you try with your phone, i'm guessing you'll get a better quality transcode over wifi. So there's bound to be some sort of QOS turned on, throttling the ATV's bandwidth.” Does the hub 5 have anything
like this ?
Thanks

There’s so much information missing it’s nearly impossible to help.

Are you transcoding? As you shouldn’t be. The ATV will play the vast majority of content without having to rely on server side transcoding.

Connect it via a cable, does that improve things?

BB seems to go down daily of late, early afternoon till long after I've knocked off/gone to sleep. Came back up around 1am going off of the network log
Was pretty frustrating for it to do that over most of the bank holiday weekend as well.

Reset router to default settings? Reboot all devices, make sure they are cabled. Try again.

If still happens check network is running on 1Gb, replace cable, test again.

Tried resetting all devices, tried wired and wireless and all media will only play at 320 with an error saying not enough bandwidth. Only posted here as someone said it must be the hub setting

So turned off transcoding and the files don’t even open now with the error not enough bandwidth for direct play, not enough cpu for conversion

Easy test do you have another router lying about by any chance?

Bypass the VM router. You don’t need net connection just local connection. If it works then it’s the VM router and then you can request a replacement telling VM you have tested another router and it works (or not).

Thanks didn’t know that so just unplug the hub and leave the rest of the network connected. Will try that
Thanks

Well you need to make sure both devices can talk to each other via a network of some sort. i.e another router as a test.

You need to troubleshoot by eliminating things 1 by 1.

If it's not this, try this...
If it's not that, try something else....
until you find where the problem is.

The art of diagnosing a problem.

You should be using files which can be natively played by the client, the ATV supports most file types so shouldn't require transcoding. Transcoding on the CPU isn't really going to work and also requires Plex pass.

Cable both server and client via a switch or your VM hub, and see if the issue persists.
