Virgin Media Discussion Thread

It seems that even leaving VM isn't without its headaches. I was disconnect from VM yesterday and recieved an email today asking me to return my old kit. They are asking me to return the SH5 and SH3. Thing is the SH3 was returned well over a year ago when I revceived the SH5.

My fixed price ends Friday coming, whats the best way to get a new deal?

Cancel via online account or call customer services? I have opted in to marketing preferences.

If I can't negotiate a deal am I allowed to get partner to sign up as new customer as I'd be happy with that price too?

There's no alternative provider that compares in my area.

You can't cancel online but they will have an offer when you sign in. Phone up and say you'd like to leave.
When asked why, say you can't afford it.
They'll offer you a crap deal to stay.
Say its too much.
They'll offer you a better deal to stay - should match or be better than what you pay now.
Either take this deal or generally at that point you'd give your 30 day notice period.
They'll phone you to offer you a better deal to stay - should be fairly decent deal.
Accept the deal or let the cancellation run and you might be able to sign up as a new customer under a new name.

It's hilarious that this is what you actually have to do to get a decent price even when you've been with a company for so long. A complete joke.

Morning all, my mother in law has now moved over to an O2 sim only deal, she lives in the same property as us (adjoining annex) Wondering if I can get a fast speed broadband if I have a O2 account registered to my address? Not 100% sure how the accounts work

To get your exclusive Volt benefits, your household needs to have at least one O2 Pay Monthly mobile customer and one eligible Virgin Media broadband customer registered there.

Should get it in that case if the address is the same.

Here we go again. Paying £27 and renewal is £51. This is only for M250. I won't pay more than £35 but guessing I'll have to go through to cancellations to get near that. Here comes this pointless dance again...

So I just logged into the mother in laws O2 account and activated Volt "Thanks for taking up Volt. We'll let you know as soon as your Volt benefits have been activated. It could take up to a week for them to be active. If you're not the Virgin Media account holder in the household, we'll also let them know that their Volt benefits have been added"

As I'm on 350M and it goes 500M then Gig1Fibre I'm hoping to go straight to 1gb :)

Couple of questions if anyone has any experience on this
  1. How quickly would me speeds change
  2. Where within my VM account could I see the Volt changes
Thanks!

Ha, OK so the above it based on their feedback, I was looking for comments based on real world :)

And also the location view the Volt change on my VM portal

I have put my cancellation in and gone from VM 500mb to Vodafone Gigabit, due to a high number of network outages and outrageous RPI linked increases (nearly everyone else is CPI which is bad enough).

With Vodafone (Openreach) my ping (fast.com speed test) has dropped from 10-13ms to 1-2ms (both wired) and getting full 1gb speed.

I'm not sure why you complain about RPI/CPI, and then choose a new ISP who also do annual rises when there are ISPs who do not do it.

Because the ISPs that don't do it work out significantly more expensive. The game is rigged. The 'choice' I have made is to switch to a provider that is increasing with CPI, rather than RPI. Not a huge win but Virgin are really having a laugh using RPI.

Assuming inflation stays are current levels, the deal I have with Vodafone averages at £33/month (inflation adjusted) over 24 months. Aquiss over the same period would have averaged £44* (for 550mb more for 1GB) and would have charged me the full contract term if I needed to move house in the next 12 months).
