Virgin Media Discussion Thread

How are EE? Our area is fttp enabled as of very recently. I haven’t heard many comments regarding ee fttp. We can get bt etc but hoping for a symmetrical service
You won't get symmetrical anytime soon with Openreach. EE are fine, they use BTW backhaul, but there's no static IP if that's important to you and they use PPPoE which has some issues at higher speed depending on your router.

Personally, if you don't care for UK support then look at TalkTalk. If you do care, go with Aquiss.

I’ve just checked availability with aquiss, not sure if they cover Manchester though

Yes, appreciate lack of symmetrical on ee/bt. Brsk should be available soon too

nice, Im currently paying £21 for 135mb , I dont need super fast speeds 100mb is more than enough for me but not looking forward when it ends so having FTTP options would make life easier
We have upto 8 people in my property at any one time!! Speed is always a nice to have!

I survived for years with say 6-7 , thats me watching 4K, others streaming on phone, tablets and smart TV , and looking at the bandwidth being used didnt get close to 100mb, only time I would be affected if downloading but rarely do that now once in a while for a game but I would do that when no ones about early or late night or just throttle the speed slightly so leaving some for others to stream

they pushed the pricing up close to the next speed up , its not the saving used to have :(

How are you guys doing with retentions? I'm coming out of a 18 month contract that was very good. I was paying £28 for 1Gig, Maxit Tv (Sports), extra box and landline we never used. Thats £107 promotions and discounts. They have offered me the same package (500mb but upgraded to 1G but no TNT) for £70. I knew I wouldnt get near the £28 but was hoping for a bit better. How have you lot been fairing?

I made the move from VM to BRSK in October. Not looked back since
Same. The difference is incredible. Yes I can get 1gb on Virgin but I can’t get 1gb upload and also the BRSK latency is very good and super consistent. I have the BQM line stats pre and post Virgin and it’s quite startling how much better BRSK (a small startup) is to Virgin on that.

50Mbps? You were late, I started with 128k via Nynex but also looking to get rid.

I can't remember what we started on, it was dial up so likely 128k, all I remember is it took an absolute age to download 1 music track, lol. How far we have come. Internet back then was quite special in that it was new and yet to be fully explored, now people take it for granted, abuse it for gain. A lot of good has come from it, but also a lot of bad, social media, scamming and such.

Retentions deals are hit and miss.

I was paying £19.25 for 125mbs with a landline and this went up to £50.25 back in Nov, best they could offer me was around £32 so I handed in my notice. I had a single call from retention from a guy who clearly didn't want to be there, offered me £29 a month for 125mbs without the landline, told him no hoping for a better deal. Although I then got various text messages to say we tried calling you, my phone never rang again so with 2 weeks left to go I started looking around and signed up for CF 150mbs at £17.99 a month.

Compared to Virgin CF have been great, the install was super easy and any queries have been answered although you do have to wait for them to reply to your query so not the same day or quick.

Upshot is retentions is a crap shoot as there are people posting of crazy deals that they have managed to get but not me :( but on the flip side the CF broadband, so far has been top notch with super low latency times and I don't get the router dropping wifi connections 3-4 time a day and also the nightly drop in connection that used to occur peeved my son off no end when he was playing online.

Certainly is hit or miss, Virgin reneged on their £42 offer, when I finally said OK they said that offer had gone (3 days later) and it was now £61, I voted with my feet at got FTTP Aquiss for equivalent of £41.25

So ee:

10 for one sim (10mbit speed cap, unlimited data/text/call)
