Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Routing to game servers is way better on basically any and all FTTP provider. Ping stability is supremely better and that leads to smoother and less laggy online gameplay. No matter how you feel now about online gameplay on Virgin Media it will be much better on a FTTP provider.

Fair enough, will see for myself eventually, just the little I play of online gameplay Ive never noticed lag, guess if the ping was high enough I sure would though.

I see VM are apparently doubling speeds again so GIG1 will be GIG2 for same price I assume. Can't say it bothers me when anything not wireless can't seem to pull more than 666Mbit and my motherboard wouldn't pull more than 945Mbit if the router would let it have it.

Are you confusing the 2 Gbps rollout as posted last week?

Yeah utter tosh, we ain't gonna see those speeds for years if at all in most areas.

Think you've misunderstood, Gig2 isn't a free upgrade mate.

It's Virgin's new 'top tier' plan for £84pm (+£6pm for symmetrical upload!) - and it's only available in nexfibre areas on XGS-PON, so very limited reach currently.

I received a VM pod, which is supposed to act like a mesh but I think it's more of a WiFi extender. Working well though, I have the pod next to my PC and plugged in via ethernet it's getting ~400mb download speeds and my S21 Ultra gets ~300mb via WiFi next to the pod.

Has anyone had the Hub 5 randomly start rebooting itself? Seems to be doing it around 2am. Just has “Cable Modem Reboot because of - unknown” in the log. Doesn’t appear to be any firmware updates. Works fine otherwise.

Can I give cancellation notice to VM greater than 1 month before contract end date?

Depends on how much contract you have left. Mine ended March 1st this year, however I gave 30 days notice back in January and it actually ended 14th Feb a few days ago, they took the last payment on 12th Feb, if you have quite a while to go on your contract they can charge you for all the months remaining.

I end 22nd March so Im going to try and give notice 22nd Feb.

probably a stupid question thinking of getting my own router for my hub 5, are all ports on the hub disconnected in modem mode and do i need a cable modem rather than an adsl one ?
Thanks
