Virgin Media Discussion Thread

grrrrr virgin media are stupid

i rang them to see if the engineer is still coming round tomorrow to install 50mb, they confirmed tomorrow installation is still on BUT i still not yet got the router via postage, they said i should get it by tuesday or wednesday.

so i asked how will the engineer test internet without router lol she transfered me to installation department and waited for 20 mins in queue. gave up and hang up.

what the point of the installation first BEFORE sending out the router!!!

edit: if the engineer cant do the installation tomorrow and have to re-arrange the date of installation then i will cancel everything. totally retard of them

just had the 50mb installed and now up and running - am a lil worried that i am getting:

how long would you leave it before saying something? Surely if you're only getting 1/2 the supposed bandwidth it should be worth having a moan about?

Try the London server. I never get proper readings on Speedtest.net from anything other than the London server.

You mean through wireless? Surely it can handle 50mbit through it's ethernet ports?

Nope. It craps out at little above 25-26Mb on Ethernet, I think I managed 35Mb once.
My apologies as I had a GS, not a GL. However, my GS had 216MHz CPU and 32MB RAM, the GL is 200MHz CPU with 16MB RAM.

Well I live in the countrys first cabled town - Milton Keynes.....

Because of that, we have the "wrong" sort of fibre; in the late 70's no-one expected houses to OUTPUT stuff.
Because of that we are too expensive for Virgin[NTL] to touch and relay.

No fast cable for me *rage*

I'm ex-MK too. I was on the RADSL trials in 2001-ish (which were successful obviously as it launched) yet I STILL could not even get 512k on RADSL dispite being on the trial and it staying synced fine and being under the newer 6km rule.

Zen did everything they could at the time but it was to no avail.
I moved to Northampton and got 512k so I was over the moon!

It's not that it's too expensive fot Virgin to upgrade, it's not their network - it's BT's.
Virgin can't upgrade it, BT wont upgrade it.

anyone know much about these 10mb upload trials? i know its only certain small areas atm but my upload sucks (as does everyones i spose) and when all 5 of us are on in this flat the upload takes a hammering

As far as I know the 10Mb up is part of the 200Mb down trials.
Only recently started so a long way off yet.

My 50 meg is only good if i download multi downloads @ the same time. but on its own lucky if i get 30 meg. :(

Thats not Virgins fault is it? I'm know Virgin Fanboy, but shouldn't you try a site that can test your 50mb?

I got 50mb a couple of weeks ago and its been great...a constant 5.95mb/s
