Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Well I have not yet ordered a new router as the one I want was out of stock. So that can wait till next pay day.

I did get a new PCI-E wireless card though, to replace the D-Link USB item. I now have a full five bars and get around 85-86 Mbps download, 11-12Mbps upload speed via wireless to the upstairs PC on my 120Mbps Virgin Media connection. 17-18 ms ping.

I was only getting three bars and 50 Mbps odd with the D-Link USB item.

Not sure if it will be an improvement to online gaming though.

I've just had an email saying my 120mb is being upgraded to 150mb. Starting to get a bit silly now!

Agree with you, i think VM should concentrate on upgrading some of there own equipment rather than trying to be number 1 fastest download speed.

My area is due the upgrade within the next few months yet the High Utilization fault is only penciled in for upgrades in April so will more than likely change and sure connection will get worse with everyones "free" speed upgrade

Well known issue and dozens of threads on VM forum about issue.

Was supposed to be fixed a while back but seen some reports again.

Only way to fix it is to block the cache server VM (all ISP's actually) use to save bandwidth on YT streaming but that can have side effects.

Just checked and I should be upgraded to 152mb May-July 2014 (Chelmsford).

My mates getting it (Southend) end of next month lucky bugger.

More speed is always welcome! :D

They put mine back again :(
so it was april of this year, then it was july of this year. Now it's Feb 2015  can't wait to leave.

My partner has moved into a new flat in Glasgow and according to the Virgin media website, he is not in a VM area.

However, in the street outside there is a CABLETEL manhole cover nearby (a few metres from the flat) and outside then flat door there is a little black cover that I have outside my existing property which has Virgin media.

Sales and customer service are useless, does anyone know any way I can speak to someone in the company that has detailed knowledge of the network in the Shawlands area of Glasgow and can tell me whether this is a database error or if there is simply no cable in the ground?

Just seen 1st peep to show he is on 152Mb/s, upload Config was raised a little again so you get 12Mb/s, was originally 11.4Mb/s then raised to 11.7Mb/s due to OFCOM now its 12Mb/s

New Configs:

Max Traffic Rate 168960000 bps download

Max Traffic Rate 12600000 bps upload

think Virgin are rubbing my nose in it - we're moving (hopefully) next month - but won't have Virgin cable anymore :( prob best-case 38mb Fibre

so the 152mb email yesterday gave me a :(

My 125mb service has been superb with Virgin - been with VM for around 14 years - and service has been excellent I have to say

unfortunately we couldn't find a house that had VM to move to

looking forward to the new house though - but not the new broadband

lol i leave and join sky 38mb and virgin shoot me a final 'LOL' email saying I'm now on 152mb.........To be fair though youtube no longer buffers and my upload speed is the same as virgins top broadband. I'm getting 1ms pings everywhere too which makes the net feel fluid. Didn't realise the internet wasn't all about bandwidth as Skys 1ms ping feels way more fluid and enjoyable to browse the web than virgins 120mb 22ms pings. The sky hub reaches the end of my flat through 2 walls too which the superhub never did.

Literally the only difference between the two is I now cannot preload steam games really quickly. I can do it quite quickly but its the only thing where I stare at a progress bar and sigh so far :P.

I only left because my package with sports was £116/m!
sky did the halfprice and everything with movies too for £74/m but after 12 months my offer is going to hit the same price as virgin lol. Maybe I'll be back but Portsmouth is so congested on virgin and whenever someone does electricity/water/building work the virgin dies for 2 days.

Hmm another peep in a town where my "head end" used to be is now on 152MB/s, I am on the phone seeing if/when I can get it as the dates have typos and keep changing in "My Virgin Media" which was down for maintenance last night and now up with a newer 152MB/s flyer.

I dont think anything Virgin does to their services will ever convince me to go back to them. I like to live stream, and Virgins services are really not aimed at live streamers at all.
It's nice that advertising standards have pressured Virgin to the point where they've been forced to remove "most" of the traffic shaping on downloads (it still exists on torrents and newsgroups) but with traffic shaping still a dark cloud over upload speeds, it's simply no good for anyone who does anything other than play online, or watch netflix.

Nice try Virgin, but you'll have to do better than that, to get back the customers that you've alienated over the past 5 years.
