Ah thought so. Knew "Johnathon" had no idea what he was on about. What's the wifi like for the Superhubs? I use a Linksys E1200 atm and the wifi doesn't quite reach my bedroom. It's fine at the door but doesn't reach my bed lol.

The Superhub 1's wifi is supposed to be poor, Superhub 2 is meant to be a substantial improvement. I personally never had the Superhub 1 in router mode, just switched it to modem mode the day I got it and then connected a router to it, currently a Asus RT-N66u.

Hmm did a Speedtest and its saying 15.79 mb/s download and 1.96 Mb/s upload. Battlefield 3 is mostly unplayable due to a ping ranging from about 200 to over 1000!
Im using a wifi card (300mbps 802.11n PCI adaptor) and the virgin router is in the other room, currently on 3 bars on the wifi symbol on the taskbar.

Any ideas what the best way to improve this would be without moving the pc or router? I was considering buying a better router and putting the superhub in modem mode.

You're never going to get good game-playing ping for a twitch shooter off a wireless connection. There's just too much latency in wi-fi. Either run some Cat 6, or try some powerplug connectors.

I know. I was lucky to have full speed for two days so far since activated 152/12.

well has i said above my speed issue has been going on for over 12months and i'm guessing it'll take VM another 9 months to fix this.

if FTTC was in my area i would switch to it.

now it's down to 8 - 15Mb

I'm using wifi and have no latency issues, playing battlefield 4, cs go I'm getting pings of 5 to 15 on average. A decent router and PC card and you'll be fine using wireless.

Virgin Media rolls out porn filtering system

Virgin Media has turned on a filtering system to help parents stop children seeing inappropriate material online.

The firm is the last of the UK's big four ISPs to turn on the government-mandated filtering system.

Initially only new subscribers will be asked whether they want the filters turned on or off.

Like other ISPs, Virgin has pledged to ask all its customers by the end of the year whether they want to use a filtering system or not.

All the UK's big four ISPs, who between them have more than 20 million subscribers, agreed to implement the filters following government pressure to limit children's access to adult material.

Virgin's system works at a network level which means all devices in a house which connect via its router will be subject to the same filtering system.

Called "Web Safe" the system currently blocks all access to sites featuring pornography, drug use, hate speech, violence, self-harm and suicide. Virgin is still working on a more flexible system that will let customers exercise more choice over which sites customers can and cannot reach.

Virgin has also produced a series of guides for parents, called Switched On Families, to help them set up and administer the filtering system.

Web Safe will work alongside software from security firm F-Secure that can be installed on laptops, tablets and smartphones to protect users when they are away from home.

The government's plan to get all big UK ISPs using filters has proved controversial as studies suggest the filters are not very effective. Some educational and charity sites that try to inform children about sensitive subjects have been blocked while other clearly adult-oriented sites are not filtered out.

The government is setting up a scheme to sites alert ISPs when they are wrongly blocked.

i dont understand why this should affect me when I have no children? I wonder what the percentage is of customers who have children.

it won't affect you if you already have an account they will just contact you and ask you if you want it.

Network level through the router meaning via the superhub? If so then this won't be an issue for modem only mode I take it.

Having to filter at their end for the millions of customers seems like a huge push on their resources for the sake of it and they have the system in place via their superhub anyway so why not utilise it since the majority of users won't be using modem only mode.

It's just the usual thing of a government trying to appear to be "doing things" by addressing a high profile issue in a way they don't really understand. It's already gone wrong by blocking things like Childline and battered women's shelters by accident. In fact, BT even had a warning up for a day that using these blocks could harm children by denying them access to education sites.

I don't think there's ever been this kind of blocking system that hasn't (a) blocked things it shouldn't have blocked (b) failed to block things it should have blocked (c) has been ludicrously easy to circumvent. It's a poor substitute for proper parenting.

It's easy enough to turn off from the "My Apps" section of the VM self care system. Just log in, though for current customers it's disabled by default. It will be pretty interesting when if we get to see the percentages of households that simply turn it off. I bet it's surprisingly high, pretty much making the whole thing a joke and a waste of time.

Just been on the phone to Virgin for the last 30 mins as I dont use the phone line as am fed up with paying for it. Ended up keeping the phone line but getting a £10 reduction or 18 months and a free upgrade to 50mb down 3mb up from the 30mb package. To be honest the Bath area has very good coverage and service, I have only twice had an outage whilst living in Bath and that was down to the Superhub being rubbish.

Stats below are current but I doubt it will change much, as my last property rocked 120Mb 24/7 even with all the students living very near by.

That is to allow for overheads and due to OFCOM, nothing more.

So you are the "Telfordcable" guy that jumps ship more then the Italians during WW2 and is infamous on about 3 ISP sites.?

What how are people getting the upgrade early, what are you saying? Just asking for it early?
