Virgin Media Discussion Thread

I can't see anything on VM's website where it states "fibre to the home"..

He did waffle on about a letter, what was this letter? Presumably the fibre to the home content was mentioned here?

So I have just had the offer of the "kahuna" deal through the door. Rang them up 26 minutes later and still not impressed with the offer.

Yes I will save some money but that is halved once they include the "installation" fee. £50 just to swap one super hub for another is beyond a joke.

No offence to the call handler but he clearly was not ready to handle my reasoning. Also I doubt the virgin engineers are turning on 152mb house by house as this call handler seemed to think. So unless this engineer is going to sit down and set up my router to how I have it set up now then I may just pass on this offer.

It really is a shame that they can't just send me out a router as I have all the kit here and really doesn't need an engineer on site.

VM have already been spoken to by OFCOM about the Fibre claim and quite right too.

Cannot remember the wording they used to use (so website will not be same as it was before), thanks to OFCOM you now have a nice little buffer on the download speed and recently on the upload speed so most customer will get the rated speed after overheads not before like ASL.

The guy on the phone possibly thinks peeps on a forum bitching all day are boring. :)

I do not care about his call or BT side of it but VM no longer make same claims as before due to OFCOM.

You do not need a new Superhub 2 if you have a Superhub 1 or two already. If you go through to the retentions/customer service number, they will sort you out the deal without a new Superhub or engineer for £50. Go through the VM phone menus till you get to "moving house" and "thinking of leaving us".

Customers who did pay for an unnecessary SH2 installation got the installation fee refunded, as it's blatent mis-selling.

Tried to talk to them about the upgrades tonight, whole system is down, no upgrades till tomorrow which I think is after all the deals have ended.

Just spent 45 minutes on the phone to them trying to get the "Big Easy" package (which was the "Starter Package" last week)
I currently have phone and 30meg only at £33 a month and Big Easy will be £35.99 but give me 50meg + tivo with basic channels.
I should also get 6 months of Netflix as it was part of the deal yesterday but they couldn't do anything as the system was down.

Anyway, they couldn't do anything, the deal wasn't coming up for £35.99 and no amount of talking to the manager seemed to be helping. They are supposed to be phoning back, talking about the website being wrong... Not encouraging. I'm not overly bothered but the Tivo box would be easier for kids and the other half to use to record and watch BBCi etc.

It's likely the systems are just a step behind with being updated for the new packages.

The 6 months Netflix deal only applied to the old collections not these new bundles i'm afraid.

Once the systems have it up and running properly and if you are out of contract it will be worthwhile pushing for a discount too by mentioning loyalty discounts, it usually entails re-contracting but you will have to do that to get a new package anyway so you lose nothing. They're usually pretty good for applying loyalty discounts whether you are changing your package to a more expensive or cheaper one. Just make sure you go through retentions for it all, 150 then option 5 then option 3 if i remember right, the "thinking of leaving us" options. As an example i have phone + 152mb broadband for £35.99 because of the discount.

I'm out of contract, I have been at my current place for 18+ months and I'm pretty certain I was only on a 12 monther, that and the fact the call centre have been calling regularly this last month!

I have no idea how you guys are getting such good deals, I spent over an hour and tried my luck with 2 different people with the retentions team (option 5/2) and first thing I mentioned is I have sky offering me 70% discount off packages and bb for £7.50 for fiber optic (38meg) and its already booked for installation so I am ready to leave virgin not unless a better deal can be reached.

They refused to believe any of it! and said I was being misinformed about the 70% sky discount.

I mentioned the newer deals for new customers were VERY cheap like £10-20 but they were very smart on the phone advising me you have to add £15 on top to that £10-20 prices also the max package they can give me was

telephone
XL package + BT sports+ESPN
100meg bb

lowest either person would do for me was £67, but this also includes another £12 tv package for £67 still. I was like ill go for it for now but will contact sky just in case.....

They seemed very reluctant to even mention the new offers for new customers let alone any other discounts and insisted with broadband and tv+phone it will always cost £50-60+

But I know this is not true considering what I have heard from here.

Should I call back and complain or threaten to leave again telling them the prices are still too high again ?

Also is that Big bundles offer available for New customers as usual I still can't believe those new big bundle prices so much cheaper then what I am paying!

Maybe leave it a couple of days for the new bundles to settle in then try again. The new bundles are available to both new and existing customer, up until yesterday they were only available to existing (2 of them anyway).

I have the same problem, I''m on the older VIP package with SKY sports. movies and BT sports and my bill refuses to come down from £120 a month.

Steveocee: Did you try and also haggle or mention these new big bundle deals which are silly cheap? Seems like we had no joy at all !

Considering the £67 package deal they quoted me yesterday it looks exactly like the big kahuna package accept if it was the big kahnua I would save £15 for first 6 months and then the prices almost double(for the main tv pack) afterwards.

I think these people @ retentions are only english since they are very smart and cunning they are very well trained during negotiation despite telling them I have a sky installation date and letter here (which I really do!) they did not budge...... no customer loyalty discount no offers or anything and the price just went UP rather then down lol

When I think about it more they used certain channels I watch (they can see which ones even) and they manipulated and twisted the conversation making me believe I can't save money since I require that service or particular channel so there prices and only option was to go either higher rather then lower !

Perhaps am over seeing it but after an hour of pointless banter......

Question if I am an existing customer (over 10 years) and I change my channels/packages or add broadband do I enter a new contract and for how long?

It doesn't matter how long you've been a customer, you'll still need to enter a new contract. I believe it's 12 months atm.

The only benefit you get from a being a customer be it 1 year or 10 is the loyalty discount.

thanks thought it was 18 months..... 12 months sounds much better at least in a years time one can attempt to further haggle!

Does anyone have any negative feedback on the new Super Hub 2 or is it only positive feedback?

I am awaiting on my upgrade from the lower-end packages, all the way to 50Mb/s. After reading and hearing this, I am told as part of the plan I will be getting the new "state of the art in computer networking technology" Super Hub 2? I've currently got the Super Hub 1, although my view and opinions of it are awful. I hate it, so I am wondering if the Super Hub 2 is better, worse or just the same as it predecessor.

Please share any opinions, much appreciated! :)

I've also had a friend with the normal Hub, that was the worst out the lot. Dropping connection when playing COD or any multi-player game which uses many ports and and a lot of bandwidth. I am sure it is because the Hub uses a flood detection system (even when you unchecked the setting, it still goes ahead and does its thing with making the connection unstable between you and servers).

The Superhub 1 is like a small blade being inserted into your back from Virgin media.

The Superhub 2 on the other hand is just a smaller blade in your back from Virgin Media.

They're both pretty terrible I'll be honest and you'll only get the optimal experience if you just pop it in modem mode, of which it works fine doing.

Plus it looks awful
