Virgin Media Discussion Thread

The Superhub 1 is like a small blade being inserted into your back from Virgin media.

The Superhub 2 on the other hand is just a smaller blade in your back from Virgin Media.

They're both pretty terrible I'll be honest and you'll only get the optimal experience if you just pop it in modem mode, of which it works fine doing.

Plus it looks awful

Super Hub 1 looks awful and ugly, Super Hub 2 looks nice to me from what I see in the pictures.

Possibly silly question coming up...

I'm upgrading my kahunas soon so will (finally) be getting a tivo box. Is there any way of saving / backing up / transferring the programs recorded on my V+ HD box?

I have a recording of a rather obscure TV program that featured my brother and Prince William that I'd like to keep hold of.

Been waiting two days for my new superhub to arrive...yodel really are terrible. Their tracking system is useless and there's no way to contact them. For the second day in a row they have failed to deliver it. Nice one.

I tried as much as i could and even though the site says the new packages include existing customers they just could not do the price quoted for the packages. They are aware of the packages but they price seems different for new or existing customers

Any existing customers actually getting these prices (inc the 6 month cheaper prices?)

As an existing customer, you won't get the new customer discounts. You'll get the same price as a new customer does after their six months of discounts expire.

I got the Big Kahuna bundle at the advertised price of £45 + phoneline. You should have it listed as such if you log into their customer portal and click on the deals for existing customers.

thanks i will try again.

How long does it take to register the changes?

If you don't need new hardware and you ask them to push a new config to your modem, it should be a few minutes.

It takes a few days for your package on the myvirginmedia.com to update correctly, and the billing will not update until your next bill, as you may be paying in advance.

I had virgin media as an ISP while in Stafford for university, damn they were awful although i think there was something wrong with the cabling because as soon as it rained packetloss was all over the place and the connection was up and down constantly, it took them over 6 months to fix that, really frustrating being a uni house and need the connection to upload work to the cloud for hand ins.

thanks this explains why virgin were not giving me any decent prices since i kept asking them how come new customers get better discounts so existing customers get the price after 6 months discount.

Since virgin quoted me £67 that price is actually good compared to say big kahuna 45 quid + 15 quid line rental actually hitting 60 quid since they were throwing in 12 quid tv pack for few quid less.

still unsure how some guys got such good prices on here I think your always looking at around 50 quid for tv+phone+bb on average.

okay done

got it for £57 for the next 12 months with no increase unless they do a global increase.

Happy as i was paying £75ish and this is now £18 cheaper but the only benefit is the cost and the extra download from 120

Just thought I'd wade back in to this thread to see if VM have fixed the YouTube bandwidth and latency issues? I left VM in March 2013 after several months of crapola - which is a shame as I otherwise liked the broadband service.

Had a few weeks where it has been a major pain but the last week or so has been ok.

You watch that change now I have typed this

As the post above by Kia I did have major buffering problems that lasted about a month,

But recently things have got better and I can play 1080p video no problem and they upgraded me to 100mb :)

the big khouna, not the top one but the one just down, 230 channels, evening and weekend and 150 bb.

Im happy mostly for the cost saving as it was starting to pile up after the initial 12 months from my 18month contract.

Hmm, the YouTube situation is quite worrying. I've had Sky FTTC for 15 months and have never, once, at any time, had YouTube buffering issues. I can play 1080p content virtually instantly, and can jump to any point and it will play immediately. I want to go back to VM as it was super fast in almost all circumstances, but they just don't seem to be able to solve the YouTube issue!

nice worth it then yeah I tend to get concerned if the bill gets too 50s-60s, I still have to do that telephone line rental saver thing with them also to save further money....

but considering what you got its well worth it :)

The phone is a bit of a waste, i ring out at most once a month. The placement is a pain so im tempted to take the phone out and only put it in when i need it but its worth having for any emergency situations as we get terrible mobile signal so i could not get rid of it.
