Virgin Media Discussion Thread

yeah wish they could remove the phone and thus save £16 per month but its part of the package/deal as usual.

Can i phone Virgin up and ask them to boost my speed to 50mb from 30mb as i see they are offering the 50mb now on their deals.

I'm thinking of phoning VM again to see if i can get a better deal for what i have.

Im paying like £86 a month for 60mb broadband,Premier collection TV package (2x tivo 500Gb) + phone...we hardly use the phone..maybe 20 mins a week if that.

Got a leaflet/letter today with new revised packages..which offer "Big Kahuna" package with unlimited weekend calls and 152mb speed for £45+15 = 60PM

So not sure if i should kill the phone, and got for a better internet connection.

I would have switched to BT infinity a longtime ago if they would hurry their backside and get it in our area.

Just phone up retentions/cancellations, and ask them if they have a better package for you. Tell them what you want to keep or downgrade, and see what they come up with.

I renewed my contract a couple of months back, noticed Kahuna had more broadband and cost a bit less, and just phoned up and asked to switch to it. First person in India insisted I had to pay for a SH2 (not true), second person in Retentions insisted I have to have a phone (not true). I finally got to someone in retentions who put me on the right package.

If you're paying too much because of inertia (ie been on the same package for years), then call them and ask for something better. They usually have some sort of deal, even if it's just a better package that's now available at a cheaper price.

You won't get the "new customer discounts" but you should get the standard pricing that the new customer gets after his six months of discounts expire.

Well phoned them this morning and changed my package.

What i have currently:
  • 2X Tivo 500GB boxes (Premiere collection XL)
  • 60mb broadband connection
  • (M) phone line
  • SuperHub V1

Total = £84.00 Month Inc line rental.

What ive changed:

  • Kept 2x Tivo 500GB boxes (Big Kahuna)
  • 152mb broadband
  • (M) phone line
  • Superhub V2 (thrown in for free)

Total £70 Month Inc line rental.

So basically ive saved £14 a month,More than doubled my internet speed and getting the latest Superhub 2 thrown in which they usually charge extra for.

I know the "Big Kahuna" is £60 a month but that only has 1x Tivo...we have 2. :)

I got the 50p "Big Bang Bundle" card today, phoned the number and asked re a discount and they told me to call CS tomorrow as they can apply a "customer loyalty" discount. He's quoting me £45.99 atm for the up to 100mb Internet/Big Chat/Big Telly (120 channels). Any idea what sort of discount I'm looking at, if any? I've been with them two years. :)

Oh and I have a SH1, any chance of me getting them to throw in a SH2 for free and does the SH1 support 100mb?

I've been with them at least 10 years and didn't get a penny off!

don't ask and be a little pushy (not rude) and you dont get.... no success with the first advisor then try again or go via retentions

20 years + nothing well not much !

I tried a 2nd time and was quoted exact same prices as first person.

I think as someone suggested best thing to do is after 12 months cancel the services... wait a few days then call up as a new customer and you get all those lovely new customer deals and discounts.

I have been reading on n off this thread and yeah some people getting tivo+phone+xl tv pack and 100meg bb for £17 and it makes me faint when I hear this especially since many and myself still paying £50-80 for even lesser!

By the way does anyone know when Virgin traffic or shape there broadband service is it still after 12pm everything is full bandwidth ?

Well, after my torrent of problems and the call centre workers wanting to send out engineers every 30 seconds when i can't get a Wan IP and saying there are no faults, i finally got put through to retentions where i got my last months bill for free and they told me they are upgrading the exchange!! Due to be finished July 2nd. Its really nice talking to someone who actually knows whats going on.

Im on holiday for two weeks in a two weeks time, so i hopefully should come back to some decent internet. Fingers crossed.

Upgraded today.

Superhub 2 looks much nicer than the Superhub 1,I like how they put the ports back on the rear instead of the side and allow the user to change the LED light settings (for night time) :)

Moved house this week. Took Virgin Media with me. I was on 120Meg at my old place. This new place has upto 152Meg. When I did a speed test, it hit over 160Meg. Very nice. The SH2 is a lot better than the SH1 as well. Can't wait to fully utilise the speed this weekend! :D

What's even better is that the price has gone from £44.75 to £37.75 a month. Cannot grumble with that I say. Until about 12 months later when they decide to up the price no doubt!

I am sure I saw on 1 thread that the "superhub" 2 firmware was being updated - but it might have been an old thread - I have:

Software Version "V1.01.29"
Hardware Version 3.11

Is this the latest please? Thanks, Mel
