Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Im back in the UK and the wireless quality of the SH was terrible so i phoned 150 and asked for a SH2. 10 mins later and being passed back to a Scottish call centre, I had one being posted to me and the 100Mbit upgrade.

was surprised lol

Which D-Link? If it's the DIR-615 its only got 100Mb Ethernet.

You'll need to upgrade your router or use the superhub in router mode to use its gigabit switch.

Oh right thanks for the answer but do you know if the sh2 will be better alone? However im planning to get a gigabit switch for the pcs upstairs rather than running long cables to 1 sh2.

I'm getting my 152mbps today with the new sh2.

I'm getting 152 next week, as part of the "Big Kahuna" package. Decided to ditch Sky and get all from Virgin, TIVO box arriving too. I don't know if they will give me an SH2 or not. Happy to keep the DIR-615 and just have 100 down, it is the higher upload I want, which goes from 6 to 12.

Had a "Principle Tech" (who was the normal tech for my area so not "Principle") round today who said everything looks perfect, ran traceroutes, pings ect and no packet loss/disconnects so said it is normal to loose connection for a couple of seconds when other customers are connected in the area due to the load on the servers (strange as never happened before) ...

Is it normal to loose connection for around 2 seconds? ... this happening randomly multiple times returning T3 errors.

I know it doesn't sound bad but it is annoying especially whilst streaming and you have to go back to the beginning of the episode/movie or wait 5/10 minutes to re buffer to skip forward.

Are you cable or phone? No such disruption on cable system ever seen.

thought it was BS when he was explaining it.

Problem only started when the green cab was tidied and upgraded to 8 downstream channels. The VM forum staff noticed errors at the times I mentioned too ... guess i will have to find tv shows from elsewhere rather than stream them ;):D

The green cab in the street is supposed to be getting moved soon so they might find the problem when this is being done.

Ok now I'm connected straight to SH2 with 152mbps that's been installed today but I'm still getting around the same speed of 85-90mbps, its weird. Though the SH2 is downstairs so I'm like running a long cable, could that be the problem?

After months of faultless service my VM broadband has gone to pot. I'm on 152mb and have been getting it pretty much constant. But for the past week my connection has been all over the place and tonight I'm getting a max of 23mb ??

I have called Virgin who are sending an engineer on Wednesday.

It's amazing how slow under 30mb feels after using 152mb for 6+ months...

The moment I went from 60-100 I've had issues with pages not loading, YouTube not loading videos and all sorts of in game lag.

Think it's another case of Virgin over stretching.

have a 20m Cat6 cable going upstairs and max my 152meg connection so doubt the cable is your problem. (unless the cable is damaged)

Does your computer have a gigabit Ethernet connection?

The chap on the phone pretty much admitted that Virgins network cannot cope with the speeds they are trying to push.

Mine was fine until a week ago so no idea what has happened since then.

Yeah well I'm using Killer Xeno network card, the cable seems fine just the connector clip is broken other than that its all good.
