Virgin Media Discussion Thread

The £1.50 increase applies to those who only have stand alone broadband, it doesn't affect you if you have any other services.

Meh, considering I just got a Superhub 2 upgrade for free, was paying 35p less anyway and a comparable connection from anyone else will be more expensive due to having to have line rental - I'm not that bothered by it, especially if it alls goes towards another free speed increase at some point like we had this year.

£23 at the start of the year for 30Mb to £27 now for 50Mb isn't that unreasonable in the grand scheme of things.

Well after my goodwill discount ran out. I rang VM today to try and negotiate some kind of deal. Was paying £14.25 pm for 100mb. It went up to £30 this month. I asked what they could do - nothing. No discount at all. So asked to leave, went through to retentions and they said nothing to offer, they did say I could pay £19.50 for 50mb so a drop of 50mb. Seeing as I don't really utilise 100mb these days I decided to drop it to 50mb. No line rental fees as opposed to if I switched to SKY or BT. Less hassle too.

So although no real discount I am paying less again for a decent enough service for my needs. In another 12 months I shall think about a proper switch as a new customer to somewhere.

I was having a bit of a look on their website yesterday and worked out that I'd be better off on the Big Daddy bundle. So I called them this morning to switch.

Before, I had:
TV-XL (with 1TB Tivo and V+ HD box)
BB-XXL (120 Mb/s with upgrade to 152 Mb/s due between November and January)
Phone-M (Weekender)
Sky Sports HD
Caller display

Total cost £119.49 pcm

Now, I'm getting:
TV-XL (with 1TB Tivo and V+ HD box)
BB-XXL 152 Mb/s (was upgraded in under 5 minutes)
Phone-XXL (Talk Unlimited Extra)
Sky Sports HD
Sky Movies HD
Caller display

Total cost £119.74 pcm

I've basically added all the Sky Movies channels in HD and got free UK phone calls at any time for an extra 25p pcm. I usually have about £5 of phone calls added per month so I'm actually nearly a fiver better off for adding more stuff.

I have just upgraded to the big kahuna bundle
they have upgraded me to a TiVo box and 152mb broadband up from my 20mb
and my price stayed the same as before so win win.

the TiVo box came today and after a router reboot I tested the speed

Yep, big Kahuna here too !

I previously had just Broadband and phone from Virgin, and had Sky TV on a half price deal.
With everything back on Virgin, I'm saving £10 per month AND I got the broadband update at the same time. AND the Tivo box which is awesome. Well pleased.

Just changed my contract and they came with a new superhub again,

this is Superhub 2AC.. is that the new test one or whatever? :) on settings it supports the 1,300 MB wireless for devices that allow etc

Seems decent so far.

Do I not need my asus rtn56u you reckon? could sell it?

They gave me a new superhub too, even though I didn't ask for one. I use it in modem mode so didn't really need it. I don't know if it is a 2 or a 2AC.

Well when you go to default IP page and go into advanced setting's it'll be fairly obvious it has new WIFI modes and stuff plus it says on the hub at the bottom :)

I haven't tried it in Modem mode yet tbh, will give it a go soon and see if it's worth keeping the Asus.

The engineer installed mine, just a Superhub 2. Still, it doesn't matter, my Virgin supplied (but bought off ebay new for a tenner) DIR-615 does the job brilliantly. I was happy with the SH1.

When I say "installed", all he did was plug it in. I had to put it into modem mode myself, as the original Superhub was.

I had a call from virgin last night offering me the big kahuna package which i accepted last night.

I have just called back today to confirm everything as i had had a few beers last night before i took the call.

tivo box 500gb
XL tv
All Sky Sport channels
Movie channels
All HD

152mb broadband

phone line

free install

superhub 2 (not that it will be used as a router)

total is £65 for 3 months then £95 for 9 months.

i currently pay £45 for 120mb and £70 to sky for their top tv package.

saving of about £150 for 3 months then £180 over the remaining 9 months.

i called sky to cancel and they offered to cut my TV down to £56 per month bringing my total bill to £96. i didnt cancel there and then but told them i would think about it, i then called virgin back to confirm what i thought i got last night :p

Im currently on 120mb from virgin so i am pleased with the savings.

Well ive just cancelled all this.

Sky rang me up and said they will do my whole package for £33 per month for 12 months. i rang virgin back just now to cancel and see what they could do for my broadband.

now being put on 152mb from 120 for £5 less a month at £41

so combined cost of £74 :)

last month i paid £115 for combined.

do a bit of threatening to leave and ive taken 35% off my total bill :)

Sky seem very very desperate to retain customers. Someone here at work managed to get three months totally free followed by half price thereafter. You have to cancel and let it be cancelled, but you will then get calls offering you a deal like this.

I cancelled Sky TV this month as I could basically get a new customer 6 months half-price deal on the Big Kahuna with Sports and Movies bundle VM offer (already had 152MB BB and phoneline with them).

Sky didn't put any effort into keeping me, but as above, I got a phonecall afterwards to see if they could do anything. I politely declined as the VM guy had literally just fitted my TiVo box. In fact he was still sat in his van outside :p
