Virgin Media Discussion Thread

I had a similar deal in the past for reduced service. £10 off for 12 months. I've also had at least 2 free months too so around £200 in credits so far. This isn't including anything I'll hopefully get for my current 12 months of reduced service I've had since last year

I had a tech visit again today from the lead engineer for this area as my fault was raised up for going on for so long. He did some things but the most interesting point was he called and confirmed the re-seg work for my area had been done. I'm still getting only ~50Mbit during peak times so after a year of build up they best they can offer is 1/3rd performance. If this gets re-raised I'm gonna be waiting another 6-9 months at least :(

That's really good. I have £20 credits in the pot so far, to cover December and January as the estimated date of fix is 28th January.

Did you just keep calling if the problem persists and demanding credit? If so, I'll be doing the exact same in February.

I suppose you got two months free because it was un-usable (speeds were too bad) or?

Still a hefty percent rise on the low speed packages. I normally pay £24 for phone+50mb and it went up 12% by £3.

Every time they raise the price it always seems to be around 10% even when i had the higher packages.

So ring them up, complain, threaten to leave, get offered a discount greater than the increase, be happy?

That's what I've done the last 2 times I've had one of those letters.

Bit of a joke really.. Well above inflation even with some investment costs thrown in. They maintained a low pricing policy for quite some time and seem to be making up for it. I'd never sacrifice my BB but the TV is ****

Still, if you want luxuries then you pays ya monies.

Merged with VM discussion thread.

It's a joke. I've phoned up a number of times to lower my package just to save money, then it just keeps creeping back up.

tbh why would you want a 50MB connection? seriously, how often would anyone actually have a NEED for that kind of speed? imo 2mb is more than enough for the average joe & 10 or 20mb fine for advanced users.

Try using streaming services in HD and see how many times it buffers.

You've moved it to the wrong section. It should be in "Networks & Internet Connectivity" I'll for give you :D

In the past you used to have to call up once an issue was fixed to get the credits, so I got the 12*£10 all in one call. The free months along the way have been for things ranging from poor speeds (<1Mbit) to no service at all for 4 days at one point.

The area I'm in now (Cambridge) is truly a train wreck. In my previous areas where I was a customer for 8 years things were never too bad. Some issues at times for sure, but you can't expect a 100% fault free service. Cambridge however I've been connected for 6 years, and had faults for almost 5 years on and off. This is why I believe if your in a bad area with other options you should just get out while you can. My only other option here is 8Mbps ADSL so it's very limited. If I had VDSL options I'd be long gone!

Here's the kind of service you can expect after spending 17 months of complaining to support, having a dozen plus engineer visits (including 2 PT visits), a networks visit, 4 new modems, 2 new amps in the cab and all coax tested and replaced (expect for one pull which has been tested as fine) while being charged £43/month (BB only)

just had engineer out problems with connection dropping fitted a new actunator or something a metal thingy on the end of the white cable, and a free early upgrade to 50 meg :D this wasn't scheduled for months.

Well that failed, phoned up to pretend to cancel to avoid paying rising costs and they didn't really care and so now my services are being terminated at end of January.

Oh no!! I laughed when I read this, im sorry lol

That thought was always on the back of my mind when I rang virgin to try and get more stuff but I never thought it would happen

I have never had any issues with Virgin in terms of pricing, contracts, speed of internet etc, but my colleague at work is constantly having issues with every aspect of his package with them.

Hi people, I have put a complaint to Ofcom. But Ofcom won't investigation unless there is a trending issue.

So if you are affected by slow speeds on VM please send a complaint in.

BBC watchdog might also be a good place to get the news out.

If people are interested in this let me know...
