Virgin Media Discussion Thread

It's a Superhub yeah. Hmm where my current router is now, i don't have the room for another unit underneath :( Guess i'll have to stick with Wifi on the Smart TV's unless i run the cable up to the TV and swap them around when i want to use one or the other, though not an ideal solution.

8TB?! You must spend a fortune on HD storage.

I'm surprised VM haven't just asked you to leave, you'll be costing them a small fortune in the long run.

Not sure if they can during contract (works both ways?), could well do after it runs out though I'm guessing. I don't see why they would want to keep a customer who is costing them money instead of making it from them.

If you have the same homehub 2 as me, connect to the 5GHz band, set it to 1.3Gbps thats all I did and it jumped up loads. All depends on your wifi device and what speeds it connects at I guess.

I have just got the Big Kahuna pagage new customer with free install and £100 off.

Tivo 500GB
TV XL
152MB Internet
Extra V Box
Talk Evening & Weekends

In inc line rental @ £61.00

Moved from the full Sky pagage as I could not justify £94 a month after my offers finished.

So far I am not keen on Tivo and the whole UI feels very bloated and no where the ease of Sky and how the box functions. Only time will tell, have another 12.days before I can cancel, loving the Internet so fast!

The tivo gets better

I am on the virgin 100mbps package only. I don't have TiVo/line rental etc.

I have been using Virgin for almost a year and I have had one issue ever! I consistently get between 100mbps and 115mbps on this which is awesome!

Although one of my friends is on the 152mbp package about 4 miles from where I live and he regularly gets 125-130 mbps on his speedtests. He rang virgin and their response was "well unfortunately you live in the west end of Edinburgh city centre so this is to be expected" :S

The tivo gets better

Just got the 6 month Netfix setup and I have never witnessed a slower app in my life :( Not really sure what to make of it all.

The remote is rubbish, the arrows seem to have a life of there own, press sideways and it goes down. It feels very plasticy I know it is but reminds me of old Beko TVs very cheap feeling.

The box is very slow navigating throughout then menus and the apps, it takes a few seconds to catch up with what I press on various apps.

I think as a Sky user since the 90s its a massive difference. No doubt about it it does boast more features but its in a different league to a SkyHD box, Sky have it sorted like Apple, it run perfect and the UI is very friendly.

If he thinks the Tivo is bad I can only imagine what he thinks of the V Box.

Ahhh well I get that on the 20th, they didn't order the second box so that was off to a good start :)

If he's getting 125+ even in peak time then he's doing better than most VM customers. Getting 15Mbps is a challenge most the time!

It's becoming clear that virgins complaints process is as slow as the broadband they offer. They claim they aim to resolve complaints within 28 days. Mines at 23 days today, which is the first day they've even attempted to discuss it with me and the call lasted 2 minutes after the guy on the phone said "I have no idea whats going on with your outage ticket, I'll need to email networks".

He's apparently calling back on Monday which will be 27 days in. It's really a poor showing that it takes them 4 weeks to even be in a position to discuss a customer complaint, let alone give any attempt to resolve it.

Just called Virgin to cancel as my introductory offer had just finished and I got the letter telling me I was about to be charged an extra £5 a month on top which would have made my total bill about £80pm, plus I really dislike the V+ box and so wanted a second Tivo but that would have made it about £85 per month.

Currently I have
XL TV
Tivo 500 and V+ Box Multiroom
60mb Broadband
Evening and Weekend Calls

I looked on sky and to get

HD Family Pack Multiroom with normal second box (as I already have a +HD Box in a cupboard I can reuse)
40MB Fibre
Talk Anytime (which as we work during the day is the equivalent of Evenings and Weekends to us)

Would be £65 a month with a £60 one off charge. There is about £120 cashback available which would make it £55 a month for the first 12 months (Except that after 6 months I would have to start paying for the Fibre which is £20 a month).

Virgin offered me

XL TV
152mb Broadband
2 x Tivo 500 HD Multiroom
Evening and Weekend Calls
6 months Netflix again

For the same initial £65 that Sky would have been, but have applied the discount for 18 months on a new 12 month contract.

Not as cheap as I have been able to get it in the past but I am happy enough.

When did they start charging for compulsory phone line rental on an internet only connection?

I was having a look for my parents and it appears that you now have to pay line rental where as I didn't used to in my previous house

So I've pretty much given up on waiting for BT to fibre up my area, which rules out Sky Fibre (that would have been my ideal scenario).
That leaves Virgin, which is available, but I'd be looking to only get the fibre and keep my current Sky TV sub.
Therefore, my question is; What's the cheapest way of me getting standalone Virgin Fibre (phone not needed)?

Maybe go hang out at a club or bar, talk to random strangers trying to strike up a friendship, with the intention to keep them as a friend if you find out they work for Virgin Media and can get you on a friends and family discount?

Had a phone call from them on friday offering me 50mb, Tivo, TV L, 6 months Netflix and phone for the £31 so took it. Seemed silly not to when once my bill goes up next month I'd have been paying around £29 just for phone and 50mb, so this way i get Large TV, Tivo for £2 and save a wad i'd have been paying Netflix anyway.

The TV L i got just by saying i wasn't bothered about the package with 70+ channels she was originally offering as i can get them on freeview through the TV anyway, so she offered to bump it up to the 170+ channel one for free :p

Had the Tivo installed yesterday and turns out they didn't give me the TV L upgrade for free. On the phone she said over 170 channels package which i assumed was the L package as it's 170+, now it's installed and the contract arrived it's only the M+ package with 130+ so i'm a little bit miffed at that. Still a freebie upgrade from M to M+ but not what i was told on the phone to persuade me to take it.

Replaced the SH2 with the SH2 ac for free also, had him install it on the TV stand thinking i could dim the lights on it like the normal SH2 but for some reason it doesn't have that function. Bah.
