I've tried Newsdemon a couple of times over the years, including again very recently. They are consistently poor in providing good speeds, and seem to have a cap around 250GB despite claiming to be 'unlimited'. You'll hit that in no time on 50 megs btw. After you hit the 'cap' your speeds will plummet, and all sorts of things start happening with your download attempts. Customer service will deny anything's wrong, "reset" your account and all is fine... for about 10 minutes.

Seriously, don't bother. They're a Highwinds reseller and if you wish to use Highwinds servers UNS or Newshosting are your best bet though they're far from ideal. If you want a decent but cheap server try Supernews (who resell Giganews with 400 days retention) or Astraweb (who have a patchy history of late). Personally I stick with Giganews.

The mate that recommended me is quite a heavy user and no problems reported, 250GB per month is a massive amount for me, don't think i'll hit anywhere near that tbh.

Virgin working on and off today in my area telford, got to reboot modem and router and im getting sick of it as i had this last month :/

They dont cap the connection but on weekends you never get 49Mbps on Newsbin...also Youtube is really bad in the evening. I download most Youtube video's in Firefox as a result.

had my connection since friday and it was a bit dodgy for the first couple of hours but has been nice and quick since then. Here's a test from 5 mins ago:

i'll be taking another test in the evening / weekend to check.

I get 50m speeds 24/7.

I do too now...thank goodness! Now just need to get rid of my flakey DIR-615 router! I put DD-WRT on it, but the wireless basically becomes unusable: very slow. Very odd...anyone else had issues?! I really like DD-WRT as QoS is an essential, and obviously I'd rather not throw good money after bad

My 50mb is going completely crackers tonight. Just dropping constantly then taking forever to get an IP again, modem fudged or virgins fault? I REALLY don't want to phone them, they're useless.

There has been some nationwide issues with the 50meg customers, ours was out all day today and they said somewhere between 12 and 24 hours and it should be back to stable, something to do with the UBR's or something (couldnt understand the guy).

Well the guy who sits opposite me at work is part of the dev team for Virgins 50mb modems so I will needlessly bug him tomorrow with how its all his fault etc. :p. I really hope it just fixes itself, epic cba trying to explain my situation to call centers.

Guys, I apologise but I couldn't find it skim-reading the 37 odd pages of posts.

Do Virgin allow you to just order their broadband? Or do you have to tie into their tv/phone/etc too?
