Virgin Media Discussion Thread

I've been getting evenings with 200meg on a 100meg package . Noticed downloads doubled through steam and speed net confirmed . upload speed dosnt increace and I'm using a measly 6meg , I'd happily drop to 50 on the down for equal upload

I've just had the same letter, mine co-incides with the end of my 18 month special mates rates deal I had through my employer. I've not seen what it will go up to yet, but I've been on £53.99 for XL TV, 100Mb BB and phone - incl line rental.

Never use the phone but I love the broadband speed. I have had only two downtimes that laster longer than 2 hours since I joined VM the first time in 2004 - so I am pretty happy with them myself. That said, I'm happy to switch to SKy again as they are offering some serious discounts on TV.

Next month will be the negotiation month :)

Must admit I'm pretty peeved that they want to increase my monthly sub by £3 to fund BT Sport HD, I'd rather they drop my package by £3 and remove all sport channels. The only channel I would not mind having is F1, would be happy to pay £3 for that one.

Exactly this. I was also peeved at the £3 hike as I am not interested in the sports channels at all. At least give me something that will want to watch!

Just got off the phone to Virginmedia Retentions - Sheffield, my 18 month contract finished months ago.

I've been paying £43.83 for 100MB Broadband + Telephone (£26.84 + £16.99 line rental)

He offered me the same package for £31.95 / month, I said how much for just 50MB broadband on it's own, he then said he could do it for £28.50 / month for just the broadband which is just basically what's advertised on their website, so I explained that I saw a Plusnet deal for £2.50 / month + £15.95 line rental, he said the lowest he could go without getting into trouble was £23.50 / month, maybe I could have got it cheaper, but it will do me, I'm saving £20 a month.

I was paying £30 for 152mb (old package and £9 loyalty discount) but the deal ended this month and rang up and got offered 152mb for £34 (£7 loyalty discount and new tier price). Not too bad since my area is over subscribed and get a £12-£15 discount each month until its fixed.

Speed it shocking ranging from 18mb to 140mb depending on time of day.

I would say that's a good deal that for sure. :)

I wasn't even making use of the 100MB; I would put myself into the light user category, online gaming, YouTube, download of games off steam, updates etc.

Diamond Cable who I started with back in the late 90's was 25p per hour for 56KB connection, it was crap for online gaming with EverQuest too much lag, switched to AOL for a while which was decent even at 56KB, but my phone bill was over £100 a month lol. I then switched to NTL's broadband who took over Diamond Cable, I was paying £25/month back around year 2002 just for 512KB when I first signed up to NTL's broadband service.

Hmm I broke a deal with virgin last year for £26.50 pm for 100mb bb only. So £23 for 50 is a bit much IMO for bb only. I reckon u might have got it for 18pm

I pay £68 for 100mb bb, xl tv and xl phone, well it's going up £3 so £71 soon!

Do you guys think I can get better del with vm?

It's a lot I know, but we was paying £80 odd when had sky sports!!

What is current traffic management policy like? Specifically, public torrents

I'm only looking at the 50Mb package and if I can max out torrents at 4-5mb/ sec then I'm happy.

Also, no issues with gaming? (mainly Xbox live atm)

Im going to stop both my tivos and just go for 100mb + phone which I need for my house alarm. phoned up and best price was £31.49.

If I go through to cancellations will I get a better deal? Will I actually have to cancel and hope retentions phone me back?

We getting Virgin installed on Monday, from what I have read traffic management is on upload only not download.
Which don't bother me in the slightest. ;)

Anyone using the 100mb service in tunbridge wells?
Whats the connection like? Had the 10 mb connection in 2010 but was pretty bad during peak times. Just wondering if there's been any improvements.

Main reason for moving is to get rid of a phone line as we never use it.

Had it installed today!

Instanet! :p

10ms ping 91mbps down 12mbps up. Well pleased hope it stays that way. ;)

Sounds good.

Is the best way to go through cash back sites for best deals or will their sales line match/ beat those deals?

I'm thinking of going for the "big easy" bundle with bb, phone and tv.
