Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Please also include an upload increase of at least double the current and highly woeful 12Mbits for a 152Mbit line.

If the increase is the previously trialled 300Mbits then that's pretty sweet as the upload will surely be more than doubled.

Just some word of advice to anyone who has gone past their 12 month contract. Know that you are in a powerful position in having the abilty to negotiate a much better contract via the threat of leaving them since your contract is over.

We were paying £36 a month for 50MB broadband and a 24/7 free land line calls phone line. After my 12 months contract finished I rang them up and selected the option to leave and told the nice lady on the other side that I wasnt happy paying £36 and want to leave. She straight away offered me £26 a month for the same service. I declined, she couldnt offer anything better so I gave her my 1 month notice to leave. A week later their external retentions rang me and offered me the same services for £20 a month which I negotiated down to £14.99 a month for a 12 month contract. I was well happy

Good god their customer services must be the most inconsistent ever!

I was on the Big Kahuna bundle for 18 months. 12 months of which I paid about £50 due to 50% off for the first 12 months, and the 6 months of which I paid something like £100 per month.

After a whole 19 months, I asked to cancel because I couldn't afford £100 per month and they threatened to immediately cut all my services and steal my telephone number which I've had all my life. He even said I won't have much luck finding another broadband provider without internet or a phone.

Finally settled on about £45 per month for 50Mb broadband.

A few days later I get the contract through the post and it's actually £15 more than I was quoted.

So I call them up and the guy says sorry blah blah blah and then offers me the same package for about £32 per month. Only this time I don't get a contract through the post and when my bill went through at the end of the month through direct debit I was actually charged £55.

I'm at my wits end with VM's customer service.

I'm actually scared of calling them again. I cant bear any more lies, threats, and deceit.

Upload speed is due to increase to 20Mb/s for people on top tier.

Excellent :-)

I recently contacted them as my Big Kahuna bundle was at an end, and they were putting prices up by £3 per month. They said they couldn't do me any better deal at all, but gave me a one-off £30 credit to my account. I can get half-price Sky deals, which is incredibly tempting, but they can't match Virgin broadand for speed.

The new tiers are 100, 200 and 300 Mbps. All customers wanting to take the free upgrade will have to log into My Virgin Media and accept it there.

Checked my account. As of yet the facility is not available to take free upgrade. I would have expected the free upgrade would have been applied automatically to all customers?

**** Virgin

"Super"hub has been playing up for a couple of weeks, rebooting itself & high error rate. Phone up Virgin and a nice lady said they'd send out a NEW Superhub2.....

Box arrived....

"Super"hub 1.0 inside, when I connected it up I found other peoples device names in the DHCP reservation list

tldr;

Promised NEW upgrade....given recycled (not even reset) tat

This upgrade, should I have received an e-mail?

I'm on holiday at the moment so haven't seen anything. Up to 300Mbps would be lovely :)

I am nearing the end of my contract so I wonder if they will hook me in for another 12months.

Currently in TVXL, 1TiVo and 2 Regular boxes without any Sky, 150Mbps and Phone for £76 per month.

I've not had any email either as yet, I have 152mb broadband and weekend calls. They pushed the price up last summer a month after we had Virgin installed so I called and cancelled the TV package (FOC) and just went with Sky for TV (better deal, full package for £57.50 with second box). My missus hated Virgin TV because she was so used to Sky and Virgin was (don't know if it still is) so user unfriendly in comparison to Sky.

I'm kinda stuck with Virgin internet because I'm in a new build they obviously laid the fibre and it's either Virgin or 2.1-3.9mb from BT provided lines as an alternative. It's a bit of a kicker really because when they inevitably push the price up even by a quid I'm stuck on the same deal (£40.99 p/m) because they are well aware that there is no alternative. I would happily ditch 152 or indeed 300mb broadband for 76mb fibre from Sky if BT would actually do something instead of spunking cash on buying football rights.

After realising I've just had a mini rant (sorry) does anyone have the full package with Virgin and is it as user friendly as Sky these days and does it beat Sky in any aspect other than Broadband?

The Virgin Tivo box offers way more functionality than the Sky box. It is very different from Sky, you have to put the effort into learning how to use it and all the features. If you don't, then you won't be happy, but that isn't really Virgin's fault. Really happy with mine. My only complaint is that it can be slow to respond, and laggy between menus sometimes.

I'm on 152Mb broadband, have not had any email about an upgrade.

Which one? The high end ones are very reliable. I've never needed to reboot mine or had issues with it (AC68U). 430Mbits wireless AC from one end of the house too.

My Superhub 2 has been rock solid. We pull down over 100GB a month on live streaming over wireless, and it is perfect. Also a couple of PCs attached via ethernet, and mobile devices too. Never misses a beat. That surprised me somewhat because I've heard so many bad things about it, but here at least it does the job very nicely.
