Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Getting fed up with Virgin now, they keep boasting about these speed increases they keep doing yet they can't even support the speeds they currently have.

Every evening now, youtube buffering, spikes and a download speed that fluctuates all over the place.

BT Infinity has just arrived in my street, so close to getting rid and trying them, the only thing that puts me off is having to swap email addresses over for everything but think I'm going to have to.

Hey guys, I've got someone on the Dell forum for my specific laptop helping me choose a wireless card, and he's told me the Intel 7260 HMW half mini card is the one I need. Now there's an N 7260 and an AC 7260. So I'm wondering if the superhub 2 I just received might be AC, how would I find out? I couldn't see anything in advanced settings at 192.168.0.1 other than 5Ghz wireless mode up to 450Mbps (best for wireless performance). Does that mean I don't have the superhub 2ac?

edit: I just looked under the router and it says superhub 2 without the ac after it so, not ac.

YouTube is up the pooper as of this week. Constant buffering every few moments even on 1080P/720P.

It's not my connection because:

I am using Google's DNS servers, though this shouldn't make any difference.

Cosham UBR, btw.

Well after VM messing up my first delivery of new router, & me reordering for delivery 4th November I've just had an email saying delivery is scheduled for 3rd November???

Apparently, Yodel can't make the 4th, so have decided the 3rd is ok. well I can't make the 3rd as I'm at work. I'd took 4th off work so I would be in.
Phoned to query it & told sorry it's the best we can do.

Really...... If it wasn't for the fact they have the best speeds I'd cancel

Send me a trust mate and I will send you an N 7260 card. I have at least 6 of the things in a draw.

Sad to see VM still haven't sorted YT issues out, shame as I was considering them when they expand where I live as I only sync at around 45 mbps on Sky. Perhaps dual WAN might be the answer.

Basically its over subscribing and they just cant handle the amount of people.

Everytime I get tempted to switch to VM, I pop into this thread and see if people are still complaining about the exact same reason I ditched them for nearly 10yrs ago.

Over subscription on the local routers, leading to weeks/months of appallingly slow 56k type internet.

I'm currently on FTTC getting 45Mbs/8Mbs, not the fastest I know, but it's there 24/7 with pings <20ms, peak time or not.

150Mbit+ sounds so tempting, but I have no faith whatsoever that I wouldn't spend half the year dealing with congestion issues.

I've always had the speed advertised in fact get more 209mbps to be exact and as a loyal customer pay a total of £25 and don't need to lay line rental. But saying that the mention of pings is so tempting lol

Todays speed test.
Its the only reason I haven't ditched them is because of the consistant speed I do get. Customer service IMO is pants.

I was in an area of over subscription but it was eventually improved and for the last 3-4 years my internet has been solid no matter what time I use it.

I still try to do any large downloads out of peak time still just in case though.

Im on 100bb package. had about 2 minor outages from what I can remember this year that lasted about an hour or two.

But its a complete post code lottery as to whether you're in a congested area or not, and you don't find that out until you've switched.

True, I was just saying that they do acknowledge over subscribed areas and estimate a date for improvements but it can take a long time.
The VM forum is a good place to check for problems in your area, theres normally a lot of long threads on this.

Not just me than and also using Google's DNS servers.

Have started downloading youtube videos using 4kvideo downloader rather than streaming.

this is the AC

^ what a sham! Just realised the SuperHub VM sent me, is not the AC!

I am only using the SH in modem mode though, with RT-AC68U as my router. Worth mentioning to VM? I was under the impression they would be sending me a SH2AC to replace the SH1 for my upgrade.
