Virgin Media Discussion Thread

I see a lot of results posted here are using speedtest.net, how do some of your fair on other test sites that either show single and multiple connections which is relevant to cable broadband?

For example the alternative TBB test which shows both shows my single connection speed rarely above 30Mb even though the HTTPx6 test hits the full 152Mb+ out of peak hours.

This is why when my VM connection is down to 30-40Mb at peak times and the single connection at ~5Mb that some streaming starts to suffer even though pings and jitter are fairly reasonable (for cable).

I also note that speedtest.net requests appear to be prioritised traffic on VM, but I expect all ISPs do that.

Any router advice for this superhub? Wireless disconection **** me off, need to buy something better

think it might be time to move on from VM. im on an over subscribed service which seems quite common looking at their support forums and they dont seem to have a great track record at resolving it. getting minimum pings of over 140ms 6pm til 11:30pm.

looking at FTTC options to replace VM. any recommendations?

Glad I've stepped in here; good to see I'm not the only one with YouTube issues recently. I'm on the 156Mb package (should ring and get 200) and up until sometime last week, performance has been fantastic.

I'm also getting the same issues with iTunes/App Store downloads, absolutely horrific. Anyone else having issues with this too?

I'm WA12 postcode.

Have you tried different DNS settings? YouTube + App Store downloads screams Akamai issues to me.

Switched between Google DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) and just letting the SuperHub deal with it (Virgin). Seems to give no difference, even after reboots of hub and laptop/phone. Using SpeedTests I usually hit 160Mb down, ping is usually 25ms or less. Not sure where else to look here.

Website says... "Hold on tight. Your speed boost is ready now! Register or sign in to My Virgin Media to order your upgrade."

So I sign in and can't find where I order it. It's not in "My Upgrades and Offers". Can anyone shed any light on this, everytrhing points me to a big expensive upgrage not the 50 - 70Mbps I'm after.

Well it does appear I have more congestion than the posts above, but better than a lot of people on the VM forums so almost no chance of getting any improvement.

so, from my 300meg speed tests, ive now been upgraded to 150meg. Seems pretty solid so far :) Also like the advertising about DOCIS 3, making it sound like some super new tech...

it took them 2 years to fix my area...

A few years ago now but I had to threaten to take them to court and spoke to the CEOs office about it to get let out of my contract (and a refund) for a year of crap (unuseable at peak times) internet, that they gave me an fix eta of 12-18 months for..

Having a right nightmare with my upgrade.

Upgraded from 100mb which was a solid 110mb to 200mb 2 weeks ago
Seems to be fine till about 3pm in the afternoon then it dies. Friday night I had 3/6mb and the rest of the weekend eveningw between 130/160mb.

Had an engineer out who changed the MHz/power on the line and said that'll fix it, it didn't he then said he would pass it to the network. No movement since, called customer service again who said the network had closed the ticket down with no action.
