Having a right nightmare with my upgrade.

Upgraded from 100mb which was a solid 110mb to 200mb 2 weeks ago
Seems to be fine till about 3pm in the afternoon then it dies. Friday night I had 3/6mb and the rest of the weekend eveningw between 130/160mb.

Had an engineer out who changed the MHz/power on the line and said that'll fix it, it didn't he then said he would pass it to the network. No movement since, called customer service again who said the network had closed the ticket down with no action.

Has your area done the automatic update to 200mb or did you call up and get it done before that area was automatically ready?.

I had this issue with the last round of updates. I called up and got upgraded to 152mb about 4 months before my area was due the automatic update.
What a big mistake, i was getting 20mb max in the evenings, speeds were terrible. Had engineer after engineer out but couldnt fix it.
As soon as my area went live with the automatic speed upgrade , bingo my speeds went back to full speed, 152mb at all times.

Is there any way of finding out how congested a VM area is before signing up? Like an unofficial wiki or something?

I would just go around and ask people if it were me, but we are looking to add VM 'business' cable connections to the portfolio of options we use for customers and some idea of expectations would be good before we switch people onto something bad.

I just looked on the virgin media forums to see if there were any reports of slow speeds (postcode search first half). Other than knocking on doors this was the only way i could think of.

I've done both the last couple of times I've moved, but its surprising how many people have little idea of how fast their connection really is or about quality issues.

Asking to do some real speed and ping/jitter testing is the only reliable way as congestion can be very local on VM.

I just checked my VM account and it says my upgrade is available but when I try to find the option to order it I can't find it, I dialled 150 and got lost in a maze of phone options and had to eventually give up, all I wanted to do is ask about the upgrade grrrr.

Anyone up and running with the new modems? I signed up for a trial and should be receiving mine this week.

Ive just bought an Asus, do you think I should send it back if virgin are bringing a new one out?

No, keep yours unless it's only an N model. Mine was the N56U, a great router but now surplus to requirements. I have a pfSense box anyway so most of the other features on the Asus are redundant in my case. Can't say too much because of the trial rules, sorry. :)
