Virgin Media Discussion Thread

I'm annoyed that I'm being charged £1.75 per month more for exactly the same product, which will then change to "vivid 200" in march when its available. Why the hell am I paying more for my broadband NOW?!

My "Superhub" keeps factory resetting itself, CS says it's because the "Superhub" only supports a maximum of 4 wired connections (I've got 11 devices through a switch).

Why would you even tell them that? :p

Based on my previous encounters, I wouldn't really expect them to know what a switch is. The poor rep must be imagining you somehow jamming 11 separate network cables into the superhub, and that "switch" is some sort of elite hacking term, like "chipped" xboxes.

As far as they should be concerned you have 4 devices plugged into the superhub.

The CS rep even suggested "If you need more than 4 connected wired devices.... try another supplier":eek:
Yep, definitely a display of ignorance. They know all home broadband supplier routers only have 4 ethernet ports, it's clear that's all they know about networking. :D

I didn't, he was running diagnostics and nearly started laughing when he saw I had 11 devices connected !

Yup, I'm fairly sure he didn't know what a switch was

I'll call cancellations tomorrow, level one support is a farce :(

//edit// Contacted cancellations & I've got an Engineer coming tomorrow, hopefully that'll be it sorted ......

I was getting a few minor issues with the SH2, but I've recently put that in modem mode and use a Fritzbox 7490 for a router, and with wired gigabit around the house, it's been really reliable..

I'd never even heard of 'Fritzbox', but have to say their routers are great, easy to use, and the Dect VOIP with google contacts sync has let me finally ditch Virgin/BT for a cheap landline (sipgate basic who are porting my old BT number for free!).

And I only realised yesterday that I could upgrade to Vivid200!

Just in time for the kids discovering youtube!

Logged into my account and it shows as Vivid 150 however i am still only getting speeds of 100. Was really hoping the line would balance and sort itself out however i think i will need to give them a call tomorrow.

On my superhubs operation configuration page , it shows my connected rate under 'primary downstream service flow' if that shows as around 160000000 then the modem is at least connected at 150mbps, and it could well be your connection to the hub not being gigabit.

When I first gof upgraded to 150, my modem never connected at the higher rate, customer service had to push something to my modem before it finally worked.

The mrs rang up moaning at them yesterday and we've gained a bigger discount, faster bb (200mb from 150mb) and sky sports/movies free for 3 month! Score.

We have xl package tv package with tivo in 1 room, v+ in my sons room, smallest telephone package possible and now 200mb bb i think its £65 a month inc line rental but might be £69

Edit: also we complained bout rubbish internet on the wifi so they sent us a superhub 2 but an engineer came the next day and installed a super hub 2 so we ended up with 2 superhub 2's :/

Well...Bye Bye Virgin

Been with them since Cabletel -> NTL -> Virgin, started of with 64K cable modem and now I'm off to SKY.

I've spent the last few weeks on the phone to retentions but the cheapest deal they'll do me for XL TV, standard Phone & 50Mb broadband is £58. That's as low as they'd go even after I cancelled my contract & told them I'm moving to Sky for £44.60 :(

They quoted me the same £58 for that same package. I said no thats still more expensive than Sky. He went off and spoke to his manager came back and offered be the equivalent of £43 a month by them crediting my account for the line rental for the full 12 months. Told them I would think about it... already signed up with Sky.

(This is also after 2 months of them dealing with a complaint that my bill went up twice for no reason over Sept and October. They said I was still on the cheapest rate in the UK so would not put my bill back down)

Also could somebody clarify this... The guy said that the cost of Sky Fibre is dictated by Virgin because the fibre technology is patented by Virgin. I smelt BS but am I wrong?

Well I got a Tivo box tuther week & my bill has gone down about 9 quid to I think it's 43 ? I'm not moaning about that at all but the new remote is complete ****, The 2 most used buttons the Volume & the Channel ones are tiny, I don't mind the shape but those 2 buttons really boil my ****.
