Virgin Media Discussion Thread

I don't really use the TV, and my phone isn't plugged in.. In fact, I don't actually have a house phone if I wanted to use it. I only kept it as it was cheaper. I'm now up to £69.99 a month for:
152MB (soon to be 200)
XL TV with Tivo and one V HD box
M Phone

The TV doesn't really give much over freeview in my eyes and what I watch on it, are freeview channels.. Dave, and the like. It's the +1's that I think is not available on all freeviews but I could always record things and use that method... I wonder if it's worth binning it off. Or, joining as a new customer but I live alone so it'd be hard to wangle that one.

HOWEVER, on the price increase my mam mentioned she got an email from MartinLewis about being able to cancel and rejoin. I will have to look into that.

Speeds are good for 152, but wish they'd sort the upload to be better!

Exactly, everyone uses a mobile and since they've became so popular and most things are free to call now then there is no need to worry.
0800 are free.
0845, use saynoto0870 or weq4u app and they'll call a free number. It's rare you can't find a free number to call.

I think a call to them may be in order.

6 months... that is the time it has taken to for our business to get VM installed at our office - and they still haven't finished! Funny thing is, we are moving office in two weeks, and despite telling them this, they insisted that they could only install to our current office and not the office below us (where we are moving to). The contractors said they wouldn't touch another install without being paid first, despite it making their life more difficult!

Is that including line rental? I'm paying only a few quid less than that (57 i think) for 50mb, M TV, phone and BT Sports :/
Yes it's the Big Kahuna deal with small discount (about £7) plus a free spare box. Nothing special but the days of offering you 50% off everytime you threaten to leave them are gone as there's not enough competition.

As soon as you receive the price increase notification letter- you can cancel free of charge within 30 days (even if your still in contract). Says this on the notification letter.

Noticed my Big Kahuna deal was pushing £70 for a bunch of stuff I don't need (+ price rises next year), so I called them up to cancel knowing I could get 50% off everything for 12 months with Sky. Scouse lad on the other end basically laughed at me and insinuated that I was lying, and that if I could get a deal that good there was no point him even trying to offer me anything. Much to his surprise I agreed and cancelled anyway, arrogant ****.

Got Unlimited BT Infinity 1 (40/10) for £10/m + £17.99 line rental, + £5 sub for BT Sports, £100 cashback and £100 Sainsburys voucher. Sky Family TV for £18/m + £110 cashback + £75 bill credit. All discounts over 12 months, on 12 month contracts!

Nearly halved my total bill for a hit on broadband speed (which I don't need anyway). Would have happily stayed with VM for convenience but they clearly can't compete with the other providers at the minute.

What TV box are you using?

For anyone experiencing high pings in Bristol (area 07).

"Just spoke to a lovely chap on the support line. He confirmed they were doing capacity upgrades in the area and have temporarily shunted all customers onto one line. He said it should last a maximum of 48 hours between 21:00 and 23:30 being the worst due to usage. After that, it should be fine."

Bit crap of them to do that... but should be short lived. I've got an engineer booked for Monday 8AM, in the event it isn't fixed.

Anyone just get the letter from Virgin announcing bills are going up £3.49 in Feb 2016 for Virgin WiFi Anywhere? I assume this is their version of BT FON etc?

Had the same letter today. I'm getting fed up of them, I only joined just over 2 years ago and this must be the 4th or 5th price rise. It's ridiculous.

Cheers, just trying to get an idea of what i'll be after when i get the price rise letter and phone retentions, i can never seem to get anything decent from them these days.

If i can't get a good deal out of them i might actually leave this time. The only TV i care about is BT sport for Champions League.

What's Virgin service like nowadays? I've heard of HUUUGE problems from some people, is this a minority?

Been with virgin in the 02 area since 2000 (so telewest/blueyonder/virgin) only ever had three loss of connection and 2 dead hubs in that time but never had any major issues at all.

Guess I am on of the lucky ones.

As for why we need the speed, this 150mb line has saved me almost a week as had a total HD failure and have over 3.2TB of steam games to download, was done in two nights :D

Those with problems will shout the loudest. I've also been with them since 2000 and had maybe a week of downtime total over those 15 years.

Sorry if this has already been asked and answered, long thread is long.. If I take the speed upgrade is it going to start another 12 month contract??

Yes :D

I've made my mind up, once the letter comes in for price rises... I'm cancelling TV/Broadband and going to Freeview and Zen Fibre. Will work out £5 less and Freeview has all the basic channels that Virgin does anyway... and broadband will be miles better with decent upload and great customer service.

A long standing customer (15+ years). Gone. Cya!

logged into my account yesterday to pay my bill and noticed I could upgrade early, received the upgrade this morning. (upgrade date was end of December)

Had a letter going up again in Feb by a fiver , same as last year their email platform is a joke been broke for weeks on end intermittent faults. it's now asking me to create a account as i don't have one. had one for years lol

Got the letter about a £3.99 price increase today. Will definitely have to have a chat with retentions soon...

As for the free speed upgrade, I'm pretty sure that doesn't tie you in to a new contract. I hope it doesn't anyway as I got my increase a few weeks back!

The rise puts me over my £65 max I'm willing to pay. Will call them tomorrow and if so cancel and go elsewhere. They seem to be upping the price at least twice a year with no gains in upload speeds.

As I suspected, my area's speed upgrade date has been pushed back a month. Now saying end of December.

Going by last time, that means next March ;)

Forgive my self-quoting but...

"Your speed boost will be ready by the end of March 2016."

I said it, it happened. Good ol' virgin media
