Virgin Media Discussion Thread

In case anyone else is phoning up for new deals before the price increase they can give you BT Sports free for 6 months, i have that as part of mine just now.

They've just offered me sky movies free for 6 months.
No use to me though, also offered me £5 a month discount, still not enough.
Going to try again in the new year.

Got my bill increase letter through today, going up by £3.49 - going to call tomorrow and see if it affects me as I am still in my 18 month contract and would mean I have had two price rises in 13 months of being with them.

Well my VM page has been saying my speed upgrade will be done by the end of January for a while now (having fluctuated around Jan/Feb/Mar a little over last couple of months). Now it's changed to July-December!

Going to call them later today and have a rant. It was only a couple of months ago that I negotiated a discount because I was dissatisfied with their service, then I get a notice my bill is going up followed by a massive delay to my speed upgrade which many others already have.

Totally useless.

Just called and spoke to some seriously snotty woman who basic said "tough ****" in so many words. Kept ranting on about what a good deal I had because 100Mb broadband should be £45 and I had a massive discount on that. Sick and tired of them trotting out this crap with made-up figures to make it sound like you have a good deal and which bear no relation to the prices on the website.

8.5%? Hah! This £3.49 is a 30% increase for me!!
I'm curious what VM service are you only paying ~£11.63 for? ;)

I would go elsewhere, but realistically speaking no other provider is going to come close even with the price increase :(
I agree with that. I live less than a mile from my exchange which is in the centre of a town of ~300,000 and they still haven't got round to putting fibre in it so VM is my only choice for decent internet.

That being said, I'm currently paying £19 month for 200Mb BB only, though you wouldn't want to go through what I had to in order to get it! ;)

Anyone got any suggestions for a decent cable router? I've just moved back to Virgin as cheaper after 2 flawless years with sky.

Superhubs still crap needs resetting everyday either the wireless gives out or the speed randomly plummets

Picked up a TP-link archer c9 from currys for 89.99 and it's been great.

Sounds broken, get them to send out a new one. Mine is perfectly stable (SH2 AC).

Asus RT-N66U is a fine cable router used one with the first superhub which had poop wireless now on a SH2 and its been perfectly stable on wireless:)

Maybe ask for SH2 if you dont already have one ?

It is the newest version of the SH2 that I have, plenty of people on their forums with the same problem and supports standard answer is that this is normal and you should reset your hub every few days...

All you guys with the price increases dont worry about it. Ring them up and tell them you want to leave because you are not happy with the price increase and they should offer you a discount straight away that will be greater than the price increase

Reset every few days is not normal... I reset mine every few weeks, not because it needs doing, but just as a preventative measure. It probably isn't necessary at all. SH2 is rock solid for me, and the wireless in particular is very heavily used. One of the lucky ones maybe.

Anyone else who currently has a virgin tivo box.. do you find them to be rather clunky and slow when going between menus? Accessing netflix through tivo is painfully slow and something as simple as going to my recorded shows can take between 10-15 seconds for the menu to load. Just wondering if this is what is to be expected or if it sounds faulty, its pretty frustrating tbh.

That's the VM Tivo box at its best :)

When first powered on it is very slow, it does seem to speed up, but is still not very responsive.

Yup Tivo is very slow, we have 2 x boxes and they are equally as painful :o

Im new to Virgin, so might not be of any help.. But I find the box Very slow, Especially when going to On Demand stuff, it can easily take 30+ seconds to load up iPlayer... I also find I have to step through a number of menu options to get to what I need. Why cant they just stick a more powerful CPU in it?

Also, and this might be a user error, if seems to be consistently recording stuff (to enable to me rewind, I guess), even for channels Im not watching. (It seems to "record" ItvBe and ItvBe+1). I have disabled the record suggestions option.

Yes, I love the TIVo box but the laggy response is annoying.

The Sky box by comparison is quite fast, but very dated menus etc and limited functionality.

I had the N66U and it's a great router but I recommend you get the AC68U now. It has a dual core CPU so handles loads much better and also the wifi is AC so at least in theory you can get the full 200 Mb (and 300 Mb should it go to that next year) over wifi, which is not possible with the N66U.

I have both the SH2 and SH3. I have them both in cable modem mode but have to say I prefer the 2 as with that I could dim the lights. The feature is no longer available in the SH3 and I don't need it's AC wifi as it's in modem mode.

Spotted the AC-68U at a relatively good price and should be with me tomorrow. Looking forward dumbing down the SH3 as it's still a steaming pile of poo. Thanks again for the recommendation :)

My speed boost keeps on going backwards, first it was Dec then January now it's April and now they want more money, is it worth trying to cancel, has anyone had much luck with that ?
