Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Phone them up and ask to be upgraded straight away. That's what I did even though it said I was months away from having my speed boosted for free.

I tried online chat, they refused to do it, said it wasn't ready. Perhaps I need to actually phone them. No technical reason it can't happen, I've been on the higher speed before.

I was about to leave virgin a week ago for bt infinity but only thing keeping me is the low price £21 for 200mb, I hope virgin eventually offer ftth or something that lowers the latency to something similar of ftth, the connection is fine however once a month it will drop out, plus the uploads are only 12mb

Why does the Settings menu look so far behind the rest of the UI?

Mine is always blurry yet the TV Menu etc is nice and sharp.

I suspect it defaults to some low-res mode so that you don't get yourself stuck into forcing your Tivo to output a screen rez your TV can't handle with no way to then see the menu to change it back. Probably not relevant if you've got a TV manufactured in the last 10 years, but I bet it happens.

Trying to find a way to get Virgin to decrease my price without losing anything.

Currently have
Xl TV
152 broadband
Evening and weekend calls
2 tivo boxes

Pay £70 a month due to increase by £3.99

I contemplated going freesat in the second room as have some old sky cables but that only save's £11 a month and it is the second room the footy on bt sports gets watched.

Can't get anything from sky at the moment to beat it, so what do I use with Virgin to get a discount?

I've called and could only get down to:

Phone pre pay (£100 for year from £164)
70MB BB for £7.99 for 6 months then £10.99 for 6 months.
No TV.

works out an average of £17.82 a month.

That's an excellent offer, reminds me I need to give them a call about the price increase.

Mine's currently £36 P/M for 150MB, Talk XL inc line rental, Caller display (Free)

I switched TV last year to SKY. Not always best but got.

Sky Family (Box sets and more HD Channels) now £18 a month (was £16.50 for 3 months)
Free 32" TV
£115 quidco (paid) and reduced my Virgin bill by £198 a year

Worked out £101.50 less and got a free TV :)

It's a pain keep having to ring them but when they see you have cancelled one part of their service and are aware of competitors offers they do come down.

Are you out of contract?

Yeah, been with them about 2 and a bit years.

Then just ring them and say you want to negotiate a better deal as you feel your paying too much.
You should get a bit knocked off but dont expect loads, you will get tied into another 12 month contract though.

We have xl TV to be honest we watch hardly any of the channels it's just that the BT sports is added to it.

Simalar package to you but 100bb and 1 tivo box with xl phone

We now pay £68 which will include the price hike next year.

I'm currently on 100mb package and have a few questions: do VM throttle connections still? Noticed my download rate all over the place and if I reboot my router it seems to fly back up, not sure if it's my router failing (Asus RT N56U) or if they are throttling my connection when I'm downloading games.

Also I'm still tied into a deal until may, will the price increase notification allow me to re-negociate a price or will that have to be done when my current deal ends? I got £7 off P/M when I renegociated it 6 months ago.

Taken from their Traffic Management Policy web page:

http://my.virginmedia.com/traffic-management/traffic-management-policy-30Mb-or-higher.html

Our new policy is simple:

We only restrict upload speed

Your speed is only reduced while the upload threshold is exceeded. So the speed reduction could only last as little as an hour as long as you reduce your uploads

Minimum period of traffic management

60 minutes*

When traffic management happens
Monday to Friday: 4:00PM-11:00PM

Saturday and Sunday: 11:00AM-11:00PM

thought I ask in here, rather than making a new thread.

me and the other half have received 2 letters now from VM in regards to a SSDP vulnerability. (http://help.virginmedia.com/system/...m_b_cable_helpsupport_vulnerabilityalert_ssdp)
now I have the superhub -> Linksys router/Wi-Fi -> end devices.
I have done the shields up test on the Gibson research corp website. all was clear.
Upnp is disabled on my Linksys router (checked that after the 1st letter).
I might try and log onto the superhub to see if upnp is enabled?
what else can or should I do?

current devices on the network,
my PC, 2x iphones, 2x ipads, xbox one, sometimes ps3.

thanks
