Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Again, I ask for evidence. I have provided some, congestion on their forum is widely reported and known about on various ISP based forums (TBB, Kitz, ISPReview etc). If it wasn't, then their support and complaints teams wouldn't be geared so much for fobbing people off with supposed fix dates and offering money off per month, cancellation without penalty mid contract notwithstanding. I also have a mate who works for them as a network engineer who says their infrastructure is woefully inadequate for the services they offer.

It's not like you've given anything other than anecdotal evidence and pointing to places like customer support forum, a place designed to help people with problems. Using your own logic are the millions of customers not complaining on Facebook and the VM forums just suffering in silence?

I'm pretty sure you're just trolling tbh, if you're not and truly believe what you are saying.. lol. Everytime something positive is posted in this thread you come along to try and **** on it.

Spoke to sales and they've said that the upgrade option should appear on accounts tomorrow if it hasn't by the 3rd then speak to them to get the upgrade.

Find me another ISP which has such bad press on community forums? Beyond TalkTalk from years gone by you'll struggle. There's a perfectly good reason why ISP's such as Zen have such high ratings and Virgin's are amongst the worst in the UK (Trustpilot for instance).

No, I am not trolling and what I've highlighted is simply not the case. Again, I've asked for evidence and you've given me nothing but calling me a troll and telling me that evidence of many disgruntled customers using various ISP based forums and poor reviews on national consumer satisfaction sites is anecdotal.

If you have VM in a non congested area then brilliant, and tbh I am somewhat jealous as the headline speeds are nothing short of fantastic. I just wish VM would invest in upgrading their infrastructure rather than spending a load of money on Usain Bolt to run their advertising campaign and getting more people in with headline figures.

If there's any evidence that there's internal policy to ensure that customers on the new 'gaming' service are routed around this congested then that's a great thing, even though it would be unfortunate to have to pay for a decent service compared to those who suffer.

I also feel sorry for all the non tech savvy people who suffer with poor service who call up and are told endless lies by the support staff, such as it's AV, wireless or other issues when in many cases it's simply down to infrastructure that can't cope.

Yeah i called earlier too and she had nothing showing on her screen for it and to call back tomorrow and hopefully it would be updated.

I'm not even sure this deserves a reply as you are using your problems and some posts on facebook to try and make it seem like the majority of people have congestion issues, which is just daft. Now go and look at Facebook or help forums for other providers, guess what... they'll be full of complaints too because happy customers don't post.

We get it that you hate virgin but quit trying to make your problems sound like they are network wide. Some areas have problems, most don't.

i agree. even tho i post good and bad things about VM.

anyway, just changed my package to free tv with TiVo / phone m / 200Mb gamer (activates tomorrow) for £45 per month. not bad from £66 for tv m+ with TiVo + v hd / phone m / 200Mb.

as we don't watch VM TV anymore due to anything now tv / netfilx / amazon prime video + lovefilm by post, we decide to drop the tv package

Would you mind running a broadband quality monitor from TBB once the gamer product has been activated, please?

Anyone in Cheltenham have any experiences to share, Thinking of going with the Vivid 200 gamer package as I'd like a bit more upload than the 7 meg I can manage on Plusnet fiber currently. I was with them about 8 years ago and didn't have any problems.

Just called them again and the guy told me the cheapest i could get it would be £53 pm for the 200mb gamer, basic phone and basic TV. He also said it doesn't go active until the end of September and that all 200mb packages are being upgraded to 20mb upload.

That being said, he was away for ages trying to find someone who knew anything about it and really didn't sound confident in what he was saying.

Well, was paying £53 a month for the Big Kahuna bundle (talk weekends, TV Size M+, TiVo, 150Mb BB) and rang up this morning to see what they can do as im out of contract....

Now will be paying £52 for exactly the same but with 200Mb BB for the next 6 months and then £55 for the remainder 6 months.....plus £50 off my bill next month.

So all in all I'll be paying £50p/m (taking into account the £50 off next months bill) over the next 12 months for talk weekends, TV Size M+, TiVo, 200Mb BB.

Pretty poor but they do have the best internet speeds in my area

ok. i have a broadband quality monitor from TBB running already so i post a before and after when the 200 gamer as been activated.

but tbh i don't think it'll do anything to the TBB results because the SH3 as latency issues/bug

No experience of Cheltenham but I had VM in Abbeydale, Gloucester and it was pretty poor at evenings and weekends. Don't forget that there's a lot of student accommodation in Cheltenham. Best bed is to Google the first bit of your post code along with Virgin Media congestion or search it on their forums.

Ah okay, that's fair enough. Do you see any packet loss with your current broadband quality monitor?

200mb gamer goes live on 1st of September. i can't see all 200mb packages are being upgraded to 20mb upload because it's not a free upgrade, it costs an extra £5

The new Vivid 200 Gamer package, which launches on September 1, costs an additional £5 per month on top of the existing Vivid 200 tariff – that normally offers download speeds of 200Mbps and upload speeds of 12Mbps.
