Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Wonder if mines picked the change up if that's the case, sales claimed they'd sent the file down whilst I was on the phone and that the hub would reboot itself but may require a manual reboot from me.

when i added the 300mb on i had to manual reboot from the software side.

took about an hour after upgrading for it to go through.

You do need a superhub 3 for the 300/20 so dunno about the 200/20.

well at first they said they've sent it and said wait 2 hours so i did but nothing happened, so i rebooted hub, still nothing, so called again, they sent the so called gamer file, the hub rebooted automatically but it was the same file as the 200Mbdown/12Mb, so we explained thats not the gamer file then he was making out it's my pc fault, so we told him to pass us on to someone else because he was getting us angry, so he did, we told this other guy the issue, he phoned somewhere and they told him they still in the process of doing the 200 gamer code/file

Had around 81Mbps DL on speedtest.net last night, now it's at 26Mbps on Wifi.

I have an old Sky wifi signal booster box, would that help somewhat? I am using an Asus USB N13 but looked into PCI-E cards just in case it would help at all. Stepdads wired and getting 309Mbps.

As for the router it's Virgin Media Hub 3.

Advanced wifi settings are on 802.11b/g/n, 20_40mhz bandwith, enabled adaptivity auto, wifi config on "performance."

Really don't use phone anymore! Not even plugged in and don't know the number.

What's probably best price to haggle for...... 100meg broad band.... A tivo and probs medium or large TV?
Can you get this without phone line...

I've just signed up for virgin.

I'm a little confused about the 200mb = no traffic management.

I've only gone for the 50mb package but in their terms it says there is no traffic management unless you're using an excessive amount of bandwidth in which case they'll slow you down in peak times.

How much is excessive and how much will they slow you down by?

I rarely download anything but I use a lot of netflix/prime etc.

Fairly certain it is only based on upload and not download.

This is the information from virgin - https://my.virginmedia.com/traffic-management/traffic-management-policy-thresholds.html

finally...

it seems last night the guy who made us the deal messed up because it wasn't for the gamer, but because he messed up they are letting us have the package ( free tv with TiVo / phone m / 200Mb gamer )for £45 per mouth and they be paying the rest for 12 months.

How much would it drop by?

As long as it's okay for gaming/streaming netflix etc I'm not too worried.

My experience on the 200mb package is anywhere from 5 to 180mbps in a evening. It's why I've switched to the gamer package to hopefully stop this from happening.

It's all down to the area your in as some people don't get affected.

They give 14 days from installation date so I suppose I'll have to test it thoroughly.

What worries me is last year they cancelled the install because they were over capacity. They have told they've increased their infrastructure since then so hopefully it will be okay.

These days they don't care if their over capacity they'll still give it you then a fault code advising they need to do improvements within the next 6 month.
