Virgin Media Discussion Thread

I don't understand their new 'gamer' tier, the speed is already plenty for gaming, what's needed is better ping. They can't give that tier better routing as net neutrality rules forbid it.

My experience on the 200mb package is anywhere from 5 to 180mbps in a evening. It's why I've switched to the gamer package to hopefully stop this from happening.

It's all down to the area your in as some people don't get affected.

Has is stopped it from happening?

Not home yet :( will test tonight if they've pushed the file out to my superhub.

It's supposed to as VM claim 0 traffic management on this package.

Well, everyone I ask at VM has no clue...

As the congestion isn't actually traffic management.

Let me know how you get on!

what SuperHub is everone using that have upgraded to the Vivid 200 Gamer? (I'm using the SH2 with 0 problems atm so would rather not change)

Have just spent 40 mins on the phone and they are telling me I need the new SH3 + cost of activation. Not only that but they were trying to charge me £163pm (managed to get the discount back on my account)

Not off to a great start, got the upload to 22mb but the download is still allover the shop.

VM stated the 7th Sept review on the fault code I've got if it's not sorted by then I'll be going back to normal fibre with a consistent speed.

Same review date and same plan, although my FTTC speeds are 16Mbps :(.

Although we may as well leave now..

Well, was paying £53 a month for the Big Kahuna bundle (talk weekends, TV Size M+, TiVo, 150Mb BB) and rang up this morning to see what they can do as im out of contract....

Now will be paying £52 for exactly the same but with 200Mb BB for the next 6 months and then £55 for the remainder 6 months.....plus £50 off my bill next month.

So all in all I'll be paying £50p/m (taking into account the £50 off next months bill) over the next 12 months for talk weekends, TV Size M+, TiVo, 200Mb BB.

Pretty poor but they do have the best internet speeds in my area

Does this include the your line rental?

I'm currently paying £54.49 for Talk Weekends - TiVo Monthly Fee - TV Size: XL - VIVID 152 Optic Fibre

Then begrudgingly £17.99 for Line Rental even though I've never had a phone plugged in.

Unless I'm mistaken with the recent price increase of £3.49 in the last 12 months the cost of Virgin has increased by around £7.

I've never had any major issues with them, but I'm starting to wonder if £70 - £80 per month is worth the money.

What are people paying for 100mbit connection alone I have 100mbit and a phone line they have never installed for £38 a month with my discount.

I just got a email saying its going up £3.49 again so I will be calling them in the morning just wondering what other people are paying.

Great just spoken to tech support and they've said it's due to a network fault in the area why I'm still getting capped in a evening and they'll have this fixed anytime from now to the 21st, not the 7th I was originally quoted.

Dumb as this might sound, but when logged into My Virigin Media where can I see how long is left to run on my contract/contract renewal date?

I can't seem to find it anywhere.

If I select My Upgrades & Offers I just see: -

Changing your package online

We're sorry, but we're unable to change your package online. We'll be happy to do it for you over the phone, and it'll only take a few minutes. Please call us on 0345 454 1111 to speak to someone who can help.

Are the coax cables for tv/broadband interchangeable? I have some old telewest coax points in the house so was looking at going the self install route. Problem is that the broadband coax is in a cupboard in the middle of nowhere so I'd like to plug the router into the coax that comes in behind the TV (broadband only, not having tv). If this is possible I can self install next week otherwise I'm going to have to wait for an engineer visit.
