Virgin Media Discussion Thread

I've generally been ok with the 50mb connection. I'm not a heavy internet user.
Been on 12m contract, started at £18/m with cashback, then £22, then £24 after their price hike.
End of contract and said its going up to £40/m.

Called them
"£36 is the lowest , nothing we can do better"
ok i'm cancelling
"£30"
ok i'm cancelling
"there's is nothing better out there"
BT offering me similar with cashback
"ok what's this?? must be your lucky day, some deal here... hmmm £26?"
Hmmm I don't see why I should pay anymore that what I'm paying, think I'll cancel *HE HANG UPS*

Called back
complained
ok £26 with *free upgrade* to 70mb

I ended up staying with that price. For the sake of £2 saves the hassle of changing though probably will switch next year.
I feel dirty.
Not sure if I could have got a better deal?

Same happened to me a couple of weeks ago. guy was very rude, almost impying I am lying or don't know what I'm talking about, basically the usual dishonest sales tactics (despite him beingvthe one actual lying to me) I've no idea how they can still get away.

He hung up because I wanted to cancel , I think he was annoyed because he could come anywhere neaf to BT prices.

I had to call back to ensure he had actually put the cancellation through.

Ironically I probably will stay with Virgin now on a new account

And all sorted.

It was because if connected automatically to the 2G band instead of 5G.

All sorted and high speeds again, TBB monitor looks ace.

My Broadband Ping

Obviously it's been getting use with gaming and downloads etc but it's a million times better.

Don't. They are playing a game with teaser rates for 'new' customers only. Your just playing the game as well.

Looks good too me. If you get a deal that is close or the same as what 'new' customers get then your doing the best you can.

So you frequent the Slow Boat :)

I am in Rogerstone so we may be affected by the same problem, when I pressed them I was given a number of NPR8581, this is not the same type I have seen anywhere else and I have asked on there forum for an update.

Here is my thread on the VM forum

You know the health and hygiene people closed that place down twice over the last few years do you?

I used to use it but after some tales I've heard I'll never use it again, not even for fish and chips.
I recently started using the China Gardens up your way and they deliver too.

I'd be really interested to know how that NPR8581 fault number turns out for you,if you could keep me posted I'd appreciate it.

I hesitated about calling VM back and taking the £24 a month all in for a year, maybe asking for an upgrade to 70Mb too but I then I remembered wanting to watch something on tv that I'd recorded and thinking how nice it would be to be able to do that again with no drop outs so I think I'll hold on for the BT option.

Luckily I haven't been there for years, China garden is good though.

Apparently I should be contacted by the team dealing with the fault over the next few days so I will update you on the outcome.

Thanks,appreciated.

Knowing my luck I'll jump to BT and the Virgin issues will get fixed the next week.

Been with Virgin (then NTL) since 2002, and up until Dec 2016 I have never had congestion issues and could always get my full speed 24/7 (area 25). They said they are looking into increasing the capacity around June.

But now the speed can plummet in the evenings which can be a pain, on the plus side they reduced my bill from £53 a month for the 300mb homework's only service to £15 a month for 6 months, that's an amazing discount and a very big saving at least, didn't even ask for it :)

Just hope they sort these capacity issues sometime this year though.

I'm sick to death of mine at the moment, every single evening I'm lucky if I get 30mb, between 20 and 30 normally.....this is on a 200mb connection! what do you think i should do?

I'm lucky to get 10.

Post on there forum or give them a call, you a plan either get a discount on your bill or get out of your contract and go elsewhere.

Yeh I think I'll call them tomorrow, I don't really want to go elsewhere but they seriously need to sort their network out, I shall go for a discount.

I find if you call after 8pm you usually get through to the UK call centre which makes dealing with them easier, they are open until 10pm.
