Virgin Media Discussion Thread

I'm on the following package..

TV XL - V+ HD box downstairs and V HD box upstairs
Phone XL
Broadband XXL

All for.........£41/month :D

It's a special deal that virgin do for retail partners, only downside being that should your employer stop selling virgin then bang goes your discount

MY GOD WHY CAN VIRGIN NOT EMPLOY PEOPLE WHO HAVE A GOOD GRASP OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE!!!!

I've spent the past 40 minutes trying to explain that I want to send my Modem back as I've canceled my connection.

They sent me a blue bag and a letter asking me to send back a set top box?? And the letter states that I will be charged if I do not send this set top box back.. £45.

All I need to know is if I can send the modem back in the packaging sent for a set top box, incase the addresses are different for different devices.

I've been transferred 4 bloody times and not one person can speak or understand bloody English!!!!!!!!

FURY!!!

I eventually got through to a British guy.. the conversation then went like so -

Me: Can i send the modem back in this bag?
VM: Hold on I'll check (Holds line for 20 seconds)
VM: Yes
Me: Thanks.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD THATS ALL I WANTED!

I just noticed my newsgroup download speeds have plummeted, getting around 600kbps when I used to get around 10 times this. Speeds jumped back to normal at 12:15am so I guess this is the new "were not capping the 50mb service in the normal sense but were doing it in another way so your not really capped" BS that Virgin are trying to pull??

I'm not a heavy downloader by any means, around 6Gb each per week is my lot, the attraction for me of 50mb was being able to get these files quickly, if I cant do that then I see no reason to keep the 50mb connection, oh wait 10 months of contract left

Any ideas I had of upgrading to 10Mb when it comes out just went out of the window.

Me and my housemates speeds were crap on the wireless, I'm plugged in with a 30m cable now and I'm actually getting full speed. We running a custom firmware on the box at the moment too, which allows for a lot better QoS settings.

I am getting managed all the time it seems, and i cannot understand why.

This week i have downloaded approximately 700Mb of data via usenet, and yet i am being managed/shaped every evening between about 4pm and midnight.

The rest of our browsing consists of the wife using Facebook, and the kids using CBeebies.

I have spoken to the english call centres a number of times and they say that i shouldnt be getting managed but i am.

I did a little experiment last night, i downloaded a 800Mb file at about 9pm, the download rate dropped to around 800 Kb/s and stayed that way for the duration of the download, then just before midnight i downloaded a 4Gb file, it started out at 800Kb/s, then about 5 minutes later jumped up to 5.95MB/s

Now if thats not being managed i dont know what is.

It is quite amazing how poor Virgin Media's service has been ever since they started, especially when Telewest were great in my experience.

Don't they understand that if they sort out their customer service crapness, they'll easily be the best provider in the country? So many people can't recommend them even though they have great packages purely because their customer service is so dire.

50mb has a special uk call centre, search this thread for an 0800 number and you will find it.

Not any more from what I can gather - called that number last week due to issues I was having and still got put through to India :(

Apparently all advisors now have the same level of training so there's no need for a separate 50mb support line.

I just had 50Mb installed today and I was also getting only 400KB/s which is absolutely ridiculous. I feel conned.

The engineer should have done speed tests and checked power levels when it was installed, did he?

Something very wrong there.

Did the engineer sort of the levels before he left.
What's are your power levels like??

I should have made it clearer that I was replying to the post above mine by sepulchre regarding usenet traffic management. :)

I was getting 400KB/s on usenet only. Actual bandwidth and speed tests are fine. :)

i allways ring retensions and ask them to put me through as it will allways be put through to a english call centre.
