Virgin Media Discussion Thread

UH OH!
I've just been upgraded to the Vivid Gamer broadband 200 down 20 up service.
I did some speed tests over the weekend and it seemed to be fine (full 200 down full 20 up). This was with the SH2.

Virgin insisted I upgrade to the SH3 for better performance - I was cynical but they insisted.

New SH3 is now installed - was that a mistake? whats the problems people are suffering? - I use my own Asus AC88U for wifi so have disabled wifi on the virgin modem.

Often can see differences between modem mode and router mode - its currently in router mode - any point changing?

ta.
Go back to your SH2!

am gunna test with some newsgroup stuff tonight.
don't worry bud - me still gots the SH2 sitting here - they will have to prise it from my dead hands before I finish testing lol

So on January 25th this year I posted saying that VM are sending me a SH 2ac to replace the SH3 which has the latency spike issue, the same issue that's still ongoing for everyone on an SH3. Anyway, I just had an email today saying I need to send the SH3 back to then.

I was never told to send the SH3 back before, and it's been in a cupboard all this time up until last week when I had a clearout and binned a load of old stuff. Why would they wait over 5 months to request for the old kit back? This is highly annoying, I better not get charged for their incompetence.

Agh, I've had a SH3 delivered today after upgrading to the VIVID300 package.

Sounding like a bad move, but I really wanted the 20Mbps upload without any traffic management (currently on VIVID200 with SH2ac).
I really have no idea whether to bite the bullet and go for it, or not bother at all and just hold off for SH4 (whenever that will be). The promised firmwire update seems to be taking forever for you current users...

If you just wanted it for the uploads then can I ask why you didn't go with the Vivid 200 GAMER ?

Because I was offered VIVID300 for the same price as I'm currently paying for standing VIVID200 (which includes a monthly loyalty discount). They wouldn't offer me the same deal to switch the 200 Gamer, unfortunately.
Plus, at the time, I wasn't aware of the issues with the chipset in the latest hubs; so I was quite happy with getting an upgrade on both down and up speeds, for the same monthly price.

Do you mind if I ask how much you are paying? As I see the price for new customers is a bit less than what I am currently paying

I can't believe for the first time in 20 years I don't have a hard wired PC to check my connection with!

probably the excuse I need for a new Ryzen 7 build lol - hmmmmm

Getting fed up of VM now, They throttle my 150Mbps line speed down to 45Mbps from 9am to 11PM, Phoned them up but I just get, "the problem must be at your end" even though an engineer has been out and everything is working fine at my end, Someone is having a laugh at HQ.

EDIT

Currently sitting at 8Mbps, VM are taking the piddle for £40 a month.
