Virgin Media Discussion Thread

I phoned up yesterday I currently just have 100mb and pay £32.50 a month. I've got a friends and family discount applied so should be £37.50.

I was hoping to get something under £30, but the person I spoke to wouldn't go much lower than what I already have. I've cancelled and hoping for a call from the retentions team to see what they could do.

virgin seem to be more willing to give discounts these days, they never used to budge. I got the VIP package for £92 very easily.

Previously i've tried to get a bit off my broadband and they wouldn't move at all.

they may be trying to get more people on board with full packages though.

That is not great at all. You can get a package deal for less even if you don't use all the features like phone or TV it will still be cheaper.

You made the correct decision to cancel. Just look at the current deals on VM, see which is most suitable (features or cost) and when they call you, use that as the basis for negotiations.

The friends and family discount could easily become the "loyalty discount" of £5 - £10.

Just had my 150mb upgraded as part of my V6 bundle to 200mb and speed test is only giving me 160-170 if I'm lucky! Is it worth phoning up? My upload has now gone from 10 to 12 which is correct but I always usually get the advertised download speed.

Id try off peak to see if its a contention issue.
I know people that were getting max speed then when they got upgraded the speed was less than they used to get.
In some cases much worse.
Lots of posts on the official forums about this

Got ours down to £37 for 300mb BB and phone, but just received the invoice and I can see the base TV package is still on there too.

Pretty happy with that result if that's the case.

How are you guys getting Mix TV, 200Mb BB and weekend calls for ~£30?

The 'Mix Bundle' for new customers (Mix TV, 100Mb BB and weekend calls) is £45/month for 12 months including £10/month discount.

With the £3.99 increase our bill was going to go up to £60-odd so I complained and got it down to £51 — I thought I'd done a decent job but based on some of the deals you lot have got, I'm still having my pants pulled down…

Got my hopes up yesterday when the Virgin Business online chat said I'd be able to get Voom 350 at my house even though I can't get the consumer service. Had this confirmed by two phone calls and was looking forward to some 350 meg goodness but then had an email saying I couldn't have it after all :'(

Think I'll just have to move house lol

Their business division is poor, especially sales as it usually turns out to be someone ringing on their behalf. VM aren't even in the area where I work i.e no cables cabinets nada but the business team claimed we could have 300 no problem.

I'm lucky in that I've got the 350mb vivid package at home now.

I get 200Meg internet only and pay £27.25 pm. Keep at them - I will be giving them a shout to avoid the recent rise

I know some of my neighbours have VM, so I thought maybe the business team might think it was worth extending the cable, but clearly not. Unfortunately, I'm also 2.5km from the BT exchange so fibre isn't great either.

Have you tried talking to the normal sales team? They might get a sales manager to come out and spec it up for you and see if it's worth them running the cable.

I'm sure there are reasons for it but I'm struggling to understand the sense behind Virgin's fibre rollout plan. My mate lives in an area where FTTC is readily available from multiple providers and yet Virgin will also be available in a month or so. I meanwhile live in an area with slow ADSL, no FTTC and no FTTP. Surely if they deployed their network to areas with poor broadband, they'd get more uptake?

I've tried, there's a form you can fill in somewhere and they're meant to come and do a survey and let you know. I didn't hear anything so rang up and asked what was happening and they just said I couldn't have it. I hadn't seen any evidence of anyone coming out though, and they would normally have to ring for access to the site.

They've probably looked on their system and said no seems departments don't talk to each other, I had it when they cabled my estate but managed to get a install date then whilst the engineer was installing the sales rep for the area turned up demanding to know how I'd placed a order as on his system it was showing we still couldn't have it.

I once bought a new house and was told for nearly a year that I couldn't get VM. Then one day I saw one of their engineers next door and it turned out there was cable up to my front door all along :o

They did at my last place. They dug a shallow channel out of the driveway for the cable and attached their box to the front wall of the house.

Yes, they drill a hole through the wall and in my case they put a splitter on the other side, so one cable went to the hub and another to the TV box. They put the phone socket in the same place, I think there was a separate cable for that.
